Chapter 1 : Marley’s Ghost

In paragraph one it is pointing out the information that Marley is dead, and in the
second paragraph it is supporting information that old Marley is dead. The third
paragraph is where Scrooge is introduced. Scrooge knew that Marley is dead but
didn’t tell anybody that he was dead because Scrooge is a selfish man and only
thinks of himself. And on the day of Marley's burial, Scrooge only cared about
business and making a deal because he is a businessman who loves money. Few
years after Marley’s death, Scrooge is being introduced, he is a cold and hard
hearted man who only cares for himself. Scrooge is a tight fister, a miser, a selfish
man who never cared for anyone, he is infamously famous. All Scrooge cared about
was all the things he likes doing and never cared about anyone. If anybody saw him
on the streets he would not give a glace to anybody who talks and beggars who beg
for money and not even blind dogs would pull their masters out of the way and would
say ‘‘no eye at all is better than an evil eye, dark master!’’. It is freezing cold and
Scrooge is in his office and has his clerk that is freezing in cold but Scrooge is very
tight fisted and would not give him more than a single coal that could burn to warm
them. Christmas came and his nephew visited him and greeted him ‘’Merry
Christmas uncle! But all that Scrooge responded was ‘’Humbug!’’ Not even a relative
can bring Scrooge back to life as he is still selfish, because Scrooge thinks that the
poor can’t be happy but he is a rich man and why is he not happy?

Marley is dead and he has no friend but Scrooge, nobody

knew Marley was dead and Scrooge didn't even tell a soul because he didn't care even at
Marley’s funeral Scrooge only knew that there is business to do and would not mourn
Marley’s death. All Scrooge thought about was money and business, even though Marley is
long gone, their warehouse name hasn’t changed and would still answer if somebody is
looking for Marley on the door, this reflects he doesn;t really care about anyone. The author
aims to understand that the poverty during this time is hard, the setting is in the 1800s of
London where the rich stay rich and the poor get poorer. It makes us understand that money
doesn’t buy happiness due to Scrooge's character, the novella also tells us the spirit of
Christmas is alive and it is where you can see yourself change as a new year is about to
happen. The author used some words as listing, alliteration, metaphor, repetition. The writer
makes the readers understand how some of the rich or wealthy people are feeling. Rich
people might have all the money but they might be happy, as money cannot buy happiness.
It makes the readers realise that people with power do not have feelings with friends even
though a friend died, business is still the priority.
