Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC) is a member organisation of the Construction Industry Council (CIC). Inherited from our
predecessor, the Construction Industry Training Authority, we have been providing quality construction training in Hong Kong for over 45 years
and devoted to professional training for practitioners of the construction industry. As one of the major driving forces for Hong Kong's economic
development, we have faith that future construction volume will steadily grow and the demand for knowledgeable workers will also be
increased.
Since the establishment in 2018, HKIC is committed to programme revamping and campus enhancement. HKIC actively conducts programme
accreditations under the Qualifications Framework, and moves forward towards the “Construction Pathway Project (CPP)”, aiming to provide
graduates with a comprehensive articulation pathway and progressive development in the vocational and professional career.
In accordance with the CPP framework, HKIC has launched the revamped Full-time 1-year “Certificate in Construction” and “Diploma in
Construction” programmes in 2021/22 academic year. In the 2022/23 academic year, we plan to launch the Full-time 2-year revamped
“Advanced Diploma” programmes as well as the new part-time “Diploma in Construction” programmes and the “Professional Diploma in
Construction for Specialist Trades” programmes. Together with the well-structured apprenticeship under “Approved Technical Talents Training
Programmes”, HKIC graduates could concurrently enhance their skills and academic qualifications. We are also exploring the articulation
arrangement with other tertiary institutions, so as to provide our graduates with a “through-train”, gradual study path for them to plan their
A total of 25 qualifications are being recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF). They include 5 streams of Professional Diploma in
Construction for Specialist Trades being recognised as QF Level 4, 10 streams of Diploma in Construction and 2 programmes for construction
safety supervisors being recognised as QF Level 3, and 8 streams of Full-time Certificate in Construction being recognised as QF Level 2.
Certain enhancements had been made for one-year and two-year full-time programmes, such as strengthening the whole-person development
module, adding study hours on sport training and volunteer service, foundation skills subjects, the comprehensive application module, site
practice module and strengthening safety training and awareness. It aims to enrich students’ learning experience, equip them with good health
and positive mindset to serve the community. Meanwhile, HKIC has incorporated construction innovations in our programmes, such as Building
Information Modelling (BIM), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology and welding simulator. We wish to equip our students with the latest
industrial knowhow, so that well-trained workforce will enhance the overall productivity and quality in construction.
In 2020, HKIC also set up the School of Professional Development in Construction (SPDC) (previously known as "Centre for Professional
Development"), to provide advanced professional and continuous education for the industrial practitioners. SPDC is currently offering courses
on various areas such as, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Contract Administration and Construction Management, as well as expanding
on Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) related courses to cater for the industry’s

A Promising Career
Construction industry has steadily grown over the past decades with the continuous support from the HKSAR Government. According to the
Construction Expenditure Forecast by the Construction Industry Council, the overall construction expenditure from now to 2028/29 will be
around HK$200 billion to HK$300 billion per annum. It covers the construction of public and private housing, implementation of hospital
development and redevelopment projects, development and expansion of new towns and new development areas, etc.
The implementation of "Construction 2.0" aims to improve productivity, quality, safety and environmental performance of the industry by
advocating "Innovation", "Professionalisation" and "Revitalisation". In addition, a number of short-term, medium-term and long-term work
projects are in progress in Hong Kong, such as housing projects, infrastructure projects, commercial building development, and areas related to
interior design, building maintenance, heritage revitalisation and greening works, will provide a wide range of job and development
opportunities. For this reason, the construction industry of Hong Kong is in need of young, energetic talents who possess the latest knowledge
and skills.
Our programmes are highly recognized by the construction companies and employers as the programmes are designed to meet the industry's
needs. Not only did they support the "Construction Supervisor and Technician Sponsorship Programme" and "Construction Industry Council
Approved Technical Talents Training Programmes", they also provide job offers for suitable HKIC students before their graduation, so that the
students could concentrate on their studies without the pressure on seeking employment. Our graduates are equipped with a solid theoretical
and technical foundation, as well as practical experience gained from site practices, opening up a very promising career prospect.
