The filter media is called BIO-BLOK® and the surface acts as a substrate for specialised bacterial strains,
which in turn are able to treat and degrade a wide range of wastewater qualities.
The treatment capacity of a biological filter basically depends on the quantity of bacteria that the filter can
sustain. In other words, the larger a specific surface area is, the larger is the bacterial population.
Future construction, refurbishment or upgrading of biological wastewater treatment plants is merely a matter
of creating optimal “living conditions” for the bacteria i.e. the bacteria must thrive on the substrate in order to
work well and “do the job”. BIO-BLOK® has excellent properties in this respect, and the result is an increase
in treatment capacity.
EXPO-NET® can supply BIO-BLOK 100, BIO-BLOK 150 HD and BIO-BLOK 200 as block modules in heights
from 45 to 75 cm. In addition all four types are available in customised lengths as individual net tubes.
The designation HD (high density) indicates material that is produced with a specific gravity of 0.95. BIO-
BLOK HD modules are especially suitable for use in submerged aerated filters (SAF’s) and in biological lamella
separation systems.
