(a) A simply supported prestressed concrete beam, span 8.0
m, cross-section 300 mm x 600 mm, is loaded with a
uniformly distributed load of 50 kN/m. Sketch the
distribution of stresses at end section, quarter section and
at mid-span, if the prestressing force is 2000 kN and the
tendon is eccentric, located at 200 mm above the bottom
fibre.
(b) A simply supported prestressed concrete beam, span 8.0
m, cross-section 300 mm x 600 mm, is loaded with a
uniformly distributed load of 50 kN/m. Sketch the
distribution of stresses at mid-span and at end sections, if
the prestressing force is 2000 kN and the tendon is
parabolic, with zero eccentricity at the ends and 200 mm
above the bottom fibre at the mid span.
(c) Compute the net initial and final concrete stresses in the
extreme top and bottom fibres at the mid-span of a beam
which is 250 mm wide and 300 mm deep on a span of 8
m. The beam is to support a live load of 8 kN/m and is to
be prestressed with a final force of 500 kN at an
eccentricity of 75 mm. Losses may be assumed as 20%?
