MONTANE FORESTS LINES

INTRO (Yatharth)- A very good evening and a warm

welcome to one and all present here. Today I, along
with my fellow ryanites, are going to present on the
topic Montane Forests. Montane forests are some of
the most beautiful forests out there….. They have Many
things different from others such as the ecosystem, the
area, the fauna and flora found there and many
more…. To explain these topics in detail i have my
fellow ryanites Rishika who will give us a detailed
explanation on the topic as well as the conclusion,
Aditya who will explain us about the ecosystem found
in montane forests, Krishna who will explain us about
the area and the deforestation happening in montane
forests. Over to you Rishika…..
3 FACTS-
3 TYPES OF FORESTS- In our geography chapter
Physical Features of India we learned that himalayas
are divided into 3 parts based on height, but are you
aware that even montane forests are divided the same
way? Montane Forests are divided into 3 parts… First
one being
The wet temperate Forests- These are commonly
found between 1000m - 2000m in height The mean
annual rainfall here is 150 cm to 300 cm, the mean
annual temperature is about 11°C to 14°C and the
average relative humidity is over 80 per cent.
Temperate Forests- These forests are commonly found
in between 1500–3000 m of height. They have really
mild temperatures. It is the second largest biome on
our planet, covering 25%. Due to its large size
spanning several continents, there are several main
types: deciduous, coniferous, mixed forest, and
rainforest. And last but definitely not the least
The alpine vegetation-Found 3600 above the sea level
Both temperate vegetation and grassland makes up the
alpine vegetation. Silver fin, Junipers, Pines and
birches are common trees. They got progressively
stunted near the snow line. Through shrubs and
scrubs, they merge into the alpine grassland. These
grasslands are used by gujjars and bakarwals for
grazing. At higher altitudes, Mosses and lichens form
part of tundra vegetation.
AREA AND DEFORESTATION-
ECOSYSTUM- Ecosystem of Montane Forests
Montane forests are ecosystems found at high
elevations typically above 1000 meters. they are
characterized by cool temperatures, high precipitation,
and diverse plants and animal life adapted to the harsh
conditions of the mountainous terrain. Montane forests
can be classified into 3 types based on their elevation:
alpine, wet temperate, and temperate forests.
Wet temperate forests are found at elevations between
1000-2000 meters and are characterized by oak and
chestnut trees. Some important species found in these
forests include chilauns, Indian chestnut, Deodar,
machilus, etc. Temperate forests are found at
elevations between 1500-3000 meters and are
characterized by pine, deodar, silver fir, spruce, and
cedar trees.
Alpine forests are found at elevations above 36600
meters and are characterized by silver fir, jumpers,
pines, etc.
Some common animals found in montane forests
include Kashmir stag,snow leopard,spotted deer,jack
rabbit etc
