1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 BASIC The instructions for use and servicing manual for blower aggregates BAH and blowers DI-H (the Manual) contain important instruc-
tions to be observed after the equipment is taken over and throughout its entire service life. The Manual has been worked out for complete

zontal ones) as well. Prior to installing and putting the equipment into operation, you are urged to study this Manual to ensure safe and
trouble-free operation of the equipment as well as its long service life. The Manual contains safety regulations, which must be observed
when operating the equipment. The equipment user is strongly recommended to ensure that this Manual is made available at all times to the
people responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment and that the procedures set out in the Manual are adhered to. It is also rec-
ommended to only hire experts from the LUTOS Company to make repairs and adaptations, or other skilled professionals recommend by
the LUTOS Company.

This Manual focuses on the use of standard blowers and blower aggregates designed for delivery of air. Other potential applications, such as
using the special blowers and blower aggregates for delivering other gases must be consulted with the manufacturer.

The instructions set out in the Manual are valid for the equipment, a quality certificate for which is attached to the Manual.
Cases of failure must be resolved in cooperation with the manufacturer; immediately contact the manufacturer’s Department of Sales & Tech-
nical Service (the LUTOS Service). For reference purposes, kindly specify in your queries the data included in the equipment serial number
plate – type and serial number of the aggregate or of the blower.

The above warning is written on a label made of hard paper and attached either to a suction sensor or to a pressure gauge, if a blower aggre-
gate is delivered, or to the blower itself, if delivery consists of a single blower.

Information on the proper direction of rotation is placed on the blower housing cap near the shaft and on the belt drive case.

2. BLOWER MACHINE
LUTOS blower aggregates of type series BAH are equipped with LUTOS blowers featuring three-lobe rotors of the DI-H (Roots type) series.

2.1 Roots-type blowers operate on the principle of oil-free delivery of gas. These blowers represent the most frequent type of twin-rotor blowers.
BLOWER Their rotors rotational axes are parallel and their movement is bound up by a synchronising gear assembly formed by two toothed wheels of
the same number of teeth. The synchronising gear assembly ensures contact-less rotation of both rotors, which rotate mutually in opposite di-
DESCRIPT rection. Suction and delivery branches fit into the stator body in the area between both rotor axes. Delivery of gas inside the blower body is
ION made without the gas being compressed; compression takes place in the blower delivery socket due to the presence of gas that was delivered
there earlier (external compression blowers).
Standard blower design makes use of wear-proof seals. On the other hand, due to the fact they cannot guarantee the absolute tightness of the
shaft, the oil level in housings should not exceed its specified height. Excessive oil level could bring about an oil leakage in the blower operat-
ing area or into the environment. To prevent any oil leakage during blower delivery, transport and handling, the blower must be deliv-
ered empty of oil, which shall be added at the latest before machine start-up.,

Blower drive
The blower is powered by an electromotor. The motor shaft torque is transmitted to the blower shaft – as a standard design – via a belt trans-
mission. The blower shaft is part of one of its rotors.

2.2 The BAH blower aggregate is designed to place the blower with a horizontal flow of gas above its driving electro-motor, between silencers
BLOWER of suction and delivery pipes. These pipe sockets provide a support framework for the entire aggregate. The aggregates, built according to
this design, can capitalise on their smaller size and a more intensive utilisation of the occupied area. The blower aggregate is illustrated in a
AGGRE- dimensional drawing of its respective size; the drawing is attached to the Manual.

DESCRIP- Main parts of the blower aggregate:
TION • Blower
• Suction silencer – contains a set of mesh screens providing protection for the blower against sucking in coarse impurities. Its dimensions
have been designed to reduce the delivered medium velocity to enable sedimentation of sucked-in impurities and to provide sufficient
space in the silencer's lower part for collecting the settled impurities. The medium to be delivered is sucked in from outside the blower's
acoustic enclosure via a protected direct inlet.
• Delivery silencer – has a similar design to the suction silencer and is provided with a silencing chamber with baffles, to suppress pulsation
in the blower delivery line.
• Swing base plate of drive motor – the plate is swing-mounted by means of hinges between both silencers underneath the blower and bears
the blower drive motor. By swinging the base plate and electromotor, the tension of the driving belts can be adjusted.
• Non-return valve – put between flanges, between the blower delivery flange and that of the delivery silencer.
• Safety relief valve – provides protection for the blower against overloading. The valve open position will release delivered medium (air,
gas) into the atmosphere. HEROSE relief valves have been installed, which are spring-actuated and directly controlled to relieve pressure,
which is set by adjusting the spring pre-load.
• Pressure hose – to connect the delivery pipe, including connecting clamps.
• Electromotor – single-speed, mounted on lugs.
• Belt transmission – via V-belts

• Acoustic enclosure for in-door installation – simultaneously provides protection as a safety belt guard.
• Safety belt guard – used only for installations without an acoustic silencer.
• Optional accessories:
a) Electromotor. Can be optionally selected at single-speed, two-speed, or electromotor-controlled by a frequency inverter (with infinitely
adjustable rotational speed).

2.3 An acoustic enclosure has been designed to reduce noise generated by the blower aggregate.
ACOUSTIC The acoustic enclosure is made of steel and contains noise-absorbing pads. Cooling air circulation provides cooling inside the enclosure. The
cooling air is driven by the suction action of a propeller mounted at the end of the blower shaft; the air is sucked off the interior. Inlet and dis-
ENC- charge openings for cooling air circulation are fitted with silencers. Due to the enclosure's design and execution, it can be used both for indoor
LOSURE and outdoor installations. The outdoor version differs from the indoor one by the application of a special surface treatment.

WARNING
Forced ventilation inside the acoustic enclosure cannot replace ventilation of the machine room.

2.4 APPLI- Blowers are used to transport gas, and to deliver, compress or suck it away. Due to the fact that the rotors are not in mutual contact and any
contact between the rotors and the blower casing is also avoided, the delivered medium is not contaminated by oil or wear contamination.

2.4.4 SUCTION Suction and delivery temperatures are mutually interlinked by the degree of gas compression. The temperature values are specified in the cal-

TEMPERATURES medium delivered by a standard blower is 140°C. Air sucked in by a blower is taken out of the same area like the cooling air for the electro-
motor. With regard to electromotor power output and cooling requirements, the environment temperature should not exceed 40°C.

2.4.4.1 MACHINE Ventilation of the machine room


ROOM The machine room is heated by heat generated from the motors, blowers, delivery silencer, and the delivery piping. The need to keep machine
VENTILATION room temperature below its operating maximum necessitates the application of a heat sink. This is achieved by ventilating the machine room.
In cases of an increased delivery temperature, it will be necessary to thermally insulate the blower delivery pipe. In most cases, where the
blower aggregate is sucking air directly out of the machine room, it will be necessary to ventilate the machine room by force.

When designing the machine room, you should allow for sufficiently sized openings for sucking in cooling air and for discharging heated air.
A layout with exhaust fans is recommended. The supply of air to the machine room must be designed in such a way as to cover the needs both
of blower aggregate suction and of blower aggregate cooling. The linear velocity of air passing through the openings should range from 5 to
10 m.s-1. The design of the inlet and outlet openings should also meet the requirement of avoiding the spread of noise out of the machine
room.
The heat output of the blower and the requirement of its cooling air consumption are calculated using the WinDIT program (this can be
downloaded from www.lutos.cz), and the results are always specified in the blower aggregate quotation.

2.4.4.2 RECOMMEN The lowest limit of ambient temperature, at which a blower aggregate can be steadily operated, is –20°C, while the short-term lower limit is as

2.4.5 SUCTION The values of suction and delivery pressure are specified in the aggregate type plate as well as in the calculation of the aggregate parameters.
AND DELIVERY The maximum pressure difference is also specified in the type plate, which forms the basis for designing electromotor power output and for
PRESSURES setting the safety relief valve. The symbol of delivery pressure, as found at the point of blower delivery flange, is pv, while ps is used for suc-
tion pressure (at the blower suction flange) and p3 for pressure at the delivery flange that connects the aggregate to the plant system.

2.5 LUBRICATION
2.5.1 SPECIFICATION The approximate figures for volume of oil filling charges needed for blowers are listed in the following table:

Specified for use are motor, fully synthetic oil (for car), class SAE 5W-40, classification ACEA A3/B3 and API SJ/CF. Several suitable
types are listed in the following table:

Use of substituting oils (e.g. for application in the food industry) should be consulted with the blower manufacturer.
The lubrication of electromotors is described in a separate manual attached to the Manual. There are no other lubrication points on the blower
aggregate.

2.5.2 MAXIMUM PERMIS-

2.6 MAXIMUM

2.7 REQUIRED In cases where the pressure gauge for the blower delivery branch is not a part of the equipment delivery, it will be necessary to install it at its

2.8 DATA O N The blower aggregate as a standard delivery is shipped without electrical wiring and controls. Basic data on installed electrical and electronic
ELECTRICAL instrumentation are specified on their type labels and in shipping documentation for those electrical appliances (manuals, wiring diagrams,
EQUIPMENT etc.). The subcontractor responsible for the delivery of electrical parts must safeguard their compliance with the requirements of pertinent
standards, primarily the Czech State Standard ČSN EN 60 204-1 on safety of machinery – electrical equipment for operating machines.
Requirements regarding radiation – according to standards ČSN EN 61 000-3-6 and ČSN EN 60 000-6-4 for equipment with an electromotor
of a rated current not exceeding 16A – were not verified, since its final radiation results from its installation and the properties of the entire
technology train, part of which will be this equipment. Should an electrical switchboard with a control unit be a part of the delivery, then their
basic information will be included in a separate manual.

2.8.1CONTROLLERS Controls for emergency stop are not included in the Lutos aggregate delivery as a standard part. Its installation is the obligation of the subcon-

STOP FUNCTION

2.8.2 SECLUDED Blowers are normally run in unmanned operation. This fact must be respected by designing their control system, namely the manner of pro-
"CLOSED DOOR" tecting them against overload or sudden failures.
The subcontractor for the electrical part of the delivery is responsible for current overload protection.
OPERATION
The equipment user is obliged to ensure that it shall not be overloaded by a permanent opening of the system relief valve. This stipulation may
address cases of simultaneous running of several blower aggregates, e.g. in wastewater treatment plants. The underlying problem is the tempo-
rary closing of some delivery branches, which is not offset by a reduction in the volume flow of delivered air (e.g. by lowering the blower's
r.p.m. or turning off some of the running aggregates). Long-term running of the blower aggregate, while its relief valve is bleeding, is danger-
ous for the blower safety, due to the occurrence of pressure pulsation, which will adversely affect the life of the blower bearings and non-
return valve and can end up in the total destruction of the blower.
Suitable overload protection of the aggregate, based on temperature monitoring, can be provided using an electrical control of permissible de-
livery temperature of air and of ambient temperature. Temperature monitoring shall provide warning signals and/or the command to turn off
the blower.

2.9 INFORMATION • Standard blowers must not be run in a reversed sense of rotation.
• Standard blowers must not be pressure-overloaded; their maximum compression ratio must not exceed the value of 2.

• The size of impurities present in the inlet medium must not exceed 0.01 mm (for DI 6 blowers) and of 0.05 mm (for DI 10 to DI 40
blowers).

Safety issues and protection of health at work


2.10 NFORMATION
ON RESIDUAL LUTOS blowers are compatible with European standards in force for health protection. In spite of this, they can endanger the health of per-
sons who operate them.
RISKS To avoid the occurrence of accidents and injuries, the personnel must abide by the following guidelines:
• Operators must be professionally trained and instructed.
• The Manual instructions must be abided by and enforced during all operators' attendance activities.
• No foreign solids, liquids or powdery materials must be permitted to enter the blower suction area.
• Cases of doubt or ambiguity are to be resolved by contacting LUTOS.
• Handling blowers while running is strictly forbidden.
• The blower must not be run while its suction is opened in such a way that its rotors may become accessible. Risk of injury!
• Operating equipment with damaged guards is not allowed.
• Operators must wear protective gloves to avoid suffering burns caused by the high temperature of the blower surfaces during operation
and after stoppage before it has had a chance to cool down.
• If the blower is operated with its acoustic enclosure opened or removed/not installed, the operators are obliged to wear hearing protection.
• The blower aggregate standard delivery includes an acoustic enclosure that is assigned by its design to provide protection as a stable safety
guard against contact of running drive belts from outside. Due to this fact, an independent safety guard for drive transmission is not installed.
The net result is that there is a certain residual risk of accidents to persons if they get into contact with the blower running drive transmission
or rotating propeller of its cooling system. In view of the residual hazard, it is forbidden to operate the blower aggregate with an open acoustic
enclosure.
• Any personal activity required to be done in the area of the motor swing base plate or adjacent to it is to be carried out with increased pre-
caution. It must be borne in mind that the swing base plate and electromotor are kept in their swing up position only by the tension of the drive
belt(s). A potential rupture of the belt(s) will ensue in sudden, uncontrolled swinging down of the whole mass.
• Before commencing maintenance and repairs, the blower must be disconnected from its power supply and measures must be taken to pre-
clude its uncontrolled turning on.
• Inhaling cleaning agents can be detrimental to the health of the afflicted persons. Similarly, physical contact with the cleaning agents can
cause excessive skin degreasing or even burns. In view of this, the instructions and directions of the suppliers of these agents must be strictly
adhered to!

2.13 NOISE General

to standards ČSN EN ISO 11200, ČSN ISO7574 and ČSN ISO 3740 are given in respective tables in the Catalogue of LUTOS blower aggre-
gates. The above values provide information on noise levels generated by the blower, either running with the acoustic enclosure or without it.

Noise made by piping
The value of equivalent level for acoustic pressure A does not include the noise that emanates from the surface of the suction or delivery pip-
ing. When designing the piping, utmost care must be given to the means of avoiding the occurrence of resonance in the piping, which could be
generated by excitation frequency created by the blower. The design of parameters must be optimised for suction and delivery piping, such as
their diameters, wall thickness, construction material and the method of anchoring the piping. The span of support points designed for piping
anchoring is also an important design parameter. The excitation frequency of LUTOS three-lobe blowers ranges within 100 to 500 Hz. It is di-
rectly proportional to the blower's rotational speed, which ranges from 1,000–5,000 r.p.m.
If requested by the customer, the blower noise suppression system can be enhanced by an auxiliary silencer mounted in the blower piping in
accordance with its specific parameters. In such a way it is possible to prevent the occurrence of noise caused by emanations from the blower
piping, e.g. in the vicinity of residential areas, etc.
Machine room
Piping drawn through the machine room should also be at the centre of the designers' attention. They should use flexible means for the piping
passage through machine room walls, to avoid transfer of piping pulsations to the room walls. Careful selection of the construction materials
for the machine room walls is also of paramount importance, because it can contribute to absorption of the emanated noise. If possible, con-
crete walls with smooth surfaces, as well as steel constructions, should be avoided.

2.14 PRESSURE In compliance with the Directive of the European Parliament and Council No. 97/23/ES as well as Czech Governmental Directive NV ČR No.
26/2003 Coll., in which technical requirements on pressure operated equipment are specified, the discharge silencer of the blower aggregate is

classified as a part of the piping.
EQUIPMENT
Having applied Appendix 2 of the above NV and diagram No. 7, it has been proved that the highest operating point of the equipment is below
the upper limit specified for Category I. Thus, it can be concluded that the discharge silencer will not underlie the force of that Governmental
Directive.

Installed in the equipment is a safety relief valve, supplied by subcontractor HEROSE GmbH. An assessment of its conformity was carried out
in compliance with the Directive of the European Parliament and Council No. 97/23/ES. The makes certificated in such a way are then
marked with the symbol CE 0045.
Testing has was performed by TÜV CERT- Zertifizierungsstelle für Druckgeräte der TÜV NORD GRUPPE.

The Statement of Conformance made in accordance with Czech Act No. 22/97 Coll. and the Directive of the European Union Council No.
2.15 CERTIFICATE 98/37/ES is attached as an appendix to this Manual.

Blower and blower aggregate


• Spare parts, and eventually the whole blower, are to be disassembled, cleaned of petroleum products, sorted out according to their construc-
tion material and handed over for special disposal.
• Provided the blower remains in working order, it can be offered for a refund to its manufacturer, following a mutual agreement between the
customer and the manufacturer.

Working stock
Oil grades recommended for use do not contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). For details – see Material Safety Data Sheets supplied by
oil manufacturers (upon request, they can be submitted by LUTOS). According to Czech Act No. 383/2001 Coll., waste code number 130207
classifies the oil.

2.17 TRAINING After the machine is put into operation and is handed over to the customer, it will be necessary to arrange for the training of operators.
OF OPERATORS
Training programme:
1. Checks of number and volume of oil fillings, their replenishing, oil topping up and changing
These activities can be carried out only when the aggregate is at full stop. The oil volume depends on the blower type. When topping up oil, its
level should not exceed the middle mark of the oil gauge.
Instructions on the necessity to use only recommended oil grades, explanation of how oil changes must be carried out and instructions on the
frequency of changing oil.

2. Check of the state of belt transmission or the clutch.

3. Checking and replacement of filter media.


Explanation of the necessity to carry out the replacement. Replacement frequency depends on dust and the manner of aggregate application /
operation.

3. TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE

3.1 TRANSPORT- Delivery


ATION AND Blower aggregates are delivered already assembled in complete units, including their acoustic enclosure. The drive belts are set in their posi-
SHIPPING DATA tion, the swing base plate of the drive motor (the swing plate) is locked in its transport position by means of a bolt. The blowers are delivered
free of oil fillings and accessories according to the Contract are part of the delivery. The delivery dimensions and weight data are specified in
a dimensional drawing attached to this Manual.

Shipment
Blower aggregates must be transported in a closed shipping space.

The swing plate must be locked in its shipping position by a bolt! Neglecting this can cause damage to the blower shaft or its bearings.

Acceptance
When taking over the shipment, it is necessary to check its completeness by using bills of delivery. Potential damage due to transportation
must be recorded in writing, in the presence of the forwarder; then the protocol is confirmed by the forwarder and immediately dispatched to
the supplier.
3.2
HANDLING Handling can be performed with a forklift or crane, in accordance with the instructions described below.
METHOD
Blower
The manner of handling the blower is illustrated in the picture below. For suspension and subsequent handling, soft slings must be used. Later,
steel wire ropes can be used as well, provided they are modified in such a way as to avoid damaging the equipment coat.

WARNING!
By no means must the blower be allowed to be suspended by its flanges!

Blower aggregate
Before handling the aggregate it is necessary to remove its acoustic enclosure. The aggregate can be handled using a crane. Two openings are
intended for hoisting and handling: one is located on the cover sheet of the suction silencer and the other is on the sheet of the discharge si-
lencer at the highest point of the aggregate.

Acoustic enclosures
Separate parts of the acoustic enclosures can be handled manually.

Motors:
The manner of handling the motor is described in the instructions for its use. The usual suspension bolts with lifting lugs are provided on the
motors for handling purposes.

3.3 STORAGE The blower aggregate in its original packaging is to be stored in a dry place and protected against dust contamination. If it is stored for longer

than six months, it is necessary to mothball it or eventually restore its preservation protection. Standard preserving agents can be applied for
this purpose.
Storage conditions:

Relative humidity: ≤ 80%

4. INSTALLATION AND ASSEMBLY

4.1 ASSEMBLY Outdoor installation


CONDITIONS When installing the blower aggregate (including its acoustic enclosure) in an outdoor environment, allowance must be made for local weather
conditions (snow, risk of the site flooding, etc.) in accordance with the standard ČSN P ENV 1991-1.
Acoustic enclosures in outdoor installations also provide weather protection for the unit.

Installation in machine room


The minimum dimensions of the machine room depend on the aggregate maximum dimensions (including its acoustic enclosure) and the need
to provide an attendance area along the aggregate sides (guards) of depth 1 m, preferably 1.2 m. An attendance area of a similar nature (depth
of 1.2 m) is also to be provided between the room wall and the discharge outlet of the aggregate acoustic enclosure. The required height of the
room depends on the manner of handling the aggregate.
4.2 AREA FOR
The design of the machine room must make allowance for the installation door (the aggregate is delivered as an assembled unit). Acoustic en-
INSTALLATION closures are removable and can be disassembled. For ease of handling it is recommended to install the aggregate with an overhead race-way
AND OPERATION with a crane crab. The space required to install individual types of DT aggregates can be determined from the dimensions specified in perti-
nent dimensional drawings.
The floor of the installation site must be even, with a loading capacity suitable to bear the weight of the equipment and to provide space for
the length of anchoring.
As for bearing capacity, there are no special requirements set for the floor design, because the blowers as well as the drive motors are dynami-
cally balanced. The values of vibration intensity for blowers and motors are specified in Table 3 and Table 4. The weight of delivered aggre-
gate is given in pertinent dimensional drawings. The aggregate must be levelled in a horizontal position and underlain with a rubber cushion,
which is part of the delivery.

After installing the blower aggregate on site, it must be anchored to the floor. Failure to meet this requirement can cause a sponta-

The spacing and diameters of the holes in the aggregate lugs are specified in the attached dimensional drawing.
The acoustic enclosures are bottomless; if the aggregate is placed on a grate foundation, a slab will cover it.

4.4 REQUIREMENTS Connection to the BAH blower aggregate


FOR PIPING The aggregate discharge is to be connected by means of a hose (a part of delivery) to discharge pipe flexibly.
CONNECTION
The pressure gauge to be installed at the aggregate discharge is not part of the delivery. If a non-standard blower aggregate or a separate
blower were delivered, then the pressure gauge is to be installed at the point nearest to the blower discharge. Due togas pulsation, pressure
gauges must be proofed against cyclic pressure oscillations that occur in the discharge pipe, e.g. glycerol-filled manometer. Should a normal
manometer be used, then it will be necessary to insert a damping element between the pressure gauge and the discharge piping. After the glyc-
erol-filled manometer has been installed, it is necessary to open the venting hole by loosening the plug – otherwise the manometer readings
would be false!

Instructions / tenets for connection:


• The piping must be installed coaxially to the blower discharge.
• The piping must be supported by fixed and sliding points of support. It is not permitted to leave the connecting hose loaded with the piping
weight. The first fixed point of support must be provided on discharge piping at a point nearest to the hose connection.
• The piping dimensions should not be smaller than the nominal diameters of the respective counter-flange openings of the blower.
• Recommended values for medium flow linear velocity are ≤22 m.s-1.
• Use piping bends with a bending radius as large as possible (reduces pressure head loss).
• Isolating elements of branch lines are to be installed as near as possible to the branch diversion point, to minimise the danger of impurities
settling at the piping dead ends.
• Hot parts of the piping (delivery branch) are to be thermally insulated.
• The piping passage through the walls must be flexible and designed to suppress noise (the passage should not be embedded firmly).
• Compensators are to be inserted into long and branched sections of the piping.
• Avoid perpendicular, direct piping connection to heat exchangers. If there is a danger of standing waves, be sure to check the length of the
connection sections for excitation frequencies at the level of six fold rotational frequency of the blower (pulsation of delivered medium).

When designing pneumatic handling systems, aeration of cement and similar applications where turning off the blower can be followed by
expansion of delivered contaminated air (expansion of air volume contained in the piping between non-return valve and site of the compressed
air use), it is necessary to assess individual application cases and eventually, to ensure separation of air contaminants during their backflow
(mechanical backflow valve cannot close immediately). In such cases do not hesitate to contact LUTOS for assistance.

4.5 INSTRUCTIONS Note: Only authorised persons qualified for these kinds of tasks are permitted to work on the electrical equipment.
FOR CONNECTING
Blowers, blower aggregates acoustic enclosures and electromotors are equipped with welded-on earthing pieces. The protection class of the
electromotor determines the level of electrical protection of the standard aggregates, which is IP 55.
THE BLOWER The electrical installation must comply with the requirements for machinery, in accordance with Directive 98/37/ES and, primarily, the re-
AGGREGATE TO quirements specified in standard ČSN EN 60204-1. All the above requirements are among obligations for subcontractors for electrical parts of
POWER SUPPLY the Contract. Standard delivery of the LUTOS blower aggregate ends up at terminals of the electromotor. In cases where the control unit is a
part of the delivery, installation work for the electrical equipment will be confined to connecting its power supply cable, provided it is not a
part of the delivery. More detailed instructions are included in a separate manual supplied with the control system.
Power supply cable must not restrict movement of the drive motor as mounted on its swing base plate!
The electrical connection of electromotors underlies the recommendations of their manufacturers. A connection diagram is drawn on a label
provided on the inner side of the cover of the electromotor terminal board. It is recommended to switch on the electromotor by using the
star/delta starter (soft start), even in cases where the user could eventually start the electromotor by a major power input directly from delta
starter. The reason for such an approach is the fact that the "soft" involves the blower aggregate as a whole.

Electromotors for power input exceeding 11 kW must not be directly started (by delta starter) unless approved otherwise by the
blower manufacturer

4.6 UNLOCKING For transport of the blower aggregate, the assembly of the electromotor and swing base plate is locked in its transportation position by means

5. EQUIPMENT OPERATION
The equipment user is obliged to keep records in the operating log book. Data relevant to operation, maintenance, revisions and re-
pairs should be recorded. Keeping records in the operation log book during the warranty period is a prerequisite for acknowledging
the validity of the guarantee. This is mainly the case for checks as listed in Tables 5 and 6.

The standard blower aggregate encapsulated in the acoustic enclosure is not equipped with a safety guard for its belt transmission,
since such a function was assigned during operation to the acoustic enclosure. The activities that are directly linked to putting the
aggregate into operation and that are to be carried out with an open acoustic enclosure while the machine is running, can be carried
out only by an authorised person duly instructed on the risks of contact with rotating parts.

5.1 PREVENTIVE • The blower aggregate user is obliged to abide by the provisions of this Manual.
MEASURES • The blower aggregate user is obliged to adhere to the minimum distance values specified in this Manual.
• The blower aggregate user is obliged to maintain the good legibility of safety labels and symbols.
• The blower aggregate user is obliged to provide for operators' protective means as specified in this Manual.

5.2 CHECK Site inspection of the installation, prior to putting it into operation, is carried out by an authorised servicing technician of LUTOS. If not oth-

Oil filling
Blowers are shipped free of oil fillings. The approximate volume of oil fillings is specified in Table 1, § 4.5.4, recommended oil types in Ta-
ble 2. In no circumstances is it permitted to blend different oil types! For more details – see § 5.5.1.

Check of rotation
Run check for whether the blower can be easily rotated by hand moving, by its drive pulley.

When rotating manually drive pulley, be aware of threat of possible accident.
Take hold of drive pulley at its circumference ference, where it is embraced with belt(s).
The recommended contact place is marked on the attached picture with two asterisks **

Inspection of both suction and delivery sections for their traffic-ability.

Checking the direction of blower rotation


Momentarily start the blower (for maximum 1 second). A longer starting run could cause, in case of rotation in the wrong direction, damage to
the blower. An arrow marks the right direction of rotation!

WARNING - BAN!

Reversed rotation can cause severe damage to the blower leading to its destruction.

WARNING - BAN!
Do not turn on the blower again during its after-running! Danger of major damage (the blower must be started while at full stop).

If not otherwise contractually agreed, authorised LUTOS servicing technicians shall perform the first blower start-up. If otherwise agreed,
then it will be necessary to proceed in the following way:
• While leaving the blower running, check the operation and setting of the safety relief valve
• After ca. 1 min of blower running, check the operating pressure; after the specified pressure has been reached, turn off the blower drive mo-
tor

• Watch the blower after-running. Its must slow down smoothly, free of any shocks and without final halting by a sudden stop.
• Check the proper direction of propeller rotation: delivered air must flow out of the outlet opening of the acoustic enclosure (above-ground).
Operation check of the safety relief valve
The inspection includes a general check of its operation and control of move-ability of the valve sealing cone, according to the requirements
of the ČSN 13 4309 standard. The latter control is performed on the running blower at a discharge pressure level equal or higher to that of the
valve opening.
HEROSE relief valves must be checked for the move-ability of their cones. Loosening the knurled nut of the bonnet covering the valve body
effects the unloading of the cone. Loosen the nut until its rotation turns stiff, and then rotate it additionally by about 180 degrees. The cone
will be released in this way and the relief valve will start its relieving operation – "puffing off." Then be sure to retighten the knurled nut.
Aggregates of bigger size are equipped with relief valves, the regulating system of which contains a small control valve. For such a relief
valve, disconnect one end of the hose (of small diameter), a part of the valve control system. The inner space of the actuating bellows will be-
come connected to the atmosphere and the relief valve will open. After reconnecting the hose to the valve, be sure to check the joint tightness
(e.g. by applying a soap water test).

5.4 TRIAL • Check, monitoring and recording values of operating pressure and temperature
• Observation of noise and vibration levels in the running aggregate

5.4.1 INSPECTION - During the first two hours, always at intervals of 15 minutes, carried out by LUTOS service; monitored values are recorded in the operating

Comments:
1) The intervals of oil change are due to the operating temperature of the oil bath (depends indirectly on the suction and discharge temperatures of transported
air). Provided the oil temperature is kept below 50°C, then the oil can be changed once a year (interval of 8,000 hours). At oil temperatures exceeding 100°C,
the oil change must be made four times a year (change interval 2,000 hours), while at oil temperature of 120°C the change must be made monthly. State of oil
quality is assessed by visual comparison of fresh oil and oil sampled from the blower fill. A dark appearance or increased viscosity of sampled oil indicate its
contamination or beginning of carbonisation, i.e. necessity of its change. A more reliable evaluation can provide oil analysis.
2) Height of oil fillings level should be checked at least once a fortnight, disregarding time of blower operation.

WARNING! During any servicing intervention the blower must be at full stop and locked/secured against uncontrolled starting. The user’s
failure to observe technical conditions and instructions will disqualify him for using the LUTOS guarantee.
If you have any unusual requirements regarding the unit operation, please contact LUTOS.

When contacting LUTOS, please specify the following data:

Should the blower be dispatched to the manufacturing plant, please remove the oil. Moreover, apply a protective coat to unvarnished parts
with preservation oil and close the blower interior by means of covers mounted both to its suction and discharge branches. Dismantle the

FILLING AND The blower has two separated oil fillings.
CHANGE Oil is filled using filling branches that are located above, in both covers. To fill oil, first unscrew the closure plug and then use a filling funnel
to avoid oil spillage in the living environment or contamination of the transmission system, etc.
Emptying the oil bath is made by discharging outlets located at the bottom of the blower covers. Used oil is to be emptied into a container of
proper size, having been prepared in advance. After unscrewing the plug out of the discharge opening, loosen the filling plug to avoid negative
pressure build-up in the interior space, which would interfere with the free discharging of oil into the receiving container. Used oil must be in-
spected visually for absence of metal contamination, e.g. metal debris, metal sludge sediment, the presence of which would signal the start of
failure of the bearings or toothed wheel gear. In such is the case, please contact LUTOS service.
Re-filling the oil tank can be started after a sufficient time has elapsed for the used oil to drip out; then the discharge plug is screwed in.
The upper level of the oil bath is to be kept in the middle part of the oil gauge, while the low-oil mark should be kept 3 mm lower. Oil level,
checked at the aggregate full stop should be kept within these limits. If the oil level has sunk down to the lower mark, it must be immediately
followed by oil re-filling. Oil re-filling must be performed with care to avoid overfilling. The level should not rise higher than the upper level
mark in the middle of the oil gauge. Oil overfilling would cause oil spillage in the working environment via the venting openings or penetration
of excessive oil into the blower while the blower is running.

Temperature of the blower oil filling can exceed the limit of 100°C subject to operating conditions. It is thus necessary to discharge oil
filling only after the oil has cooled down! Neglecting this instruction can cause burn injuries to the attending person.

Lubricants (motor):
Bearings of standard electromotors of smaller size are lubricated by a permanent grease fill. Larger electromotors require lubricant re-filling to
their bearings. The lubrication procedure is described in the instructions for use of the electromotor.

6.3 DRIVE PULLEYS Drive pulley


Standard blower aggregates are driven via belt transmission. Driving torque is transmitted from pulleys to the blower shaft via Taper Lock

Disassembly procedure
Loosen and unscrew all screws. Apply thrust screws: screw them in depressing windings and tighten them evenly in a crosswise manner, until
the clamp bushing is loosened from drive pulley.

Assembly procedure
Remove excessive grease from the shaft pegs, clamp bushing and pulley central hole. Push the clamp bushing into the pulley hole. Direct the
position of the openings provided with a half-thread in such a way that the corresponding holes in the bushing and pulley mutually coincide.
Grease the screws slightly with oil and screw them into their fastening threaded holes. Do not tighten them yet! Slide the clamp bushing jointly
with the drive pulley on the blower shaft. Now tighten the screws evenly using a torque wrench, stepwise, until the specified torque Ms is
reached. After a short test, run under load; check that the screws are reliably tightened (checking by applied torque). Fill up the blank threaded
holes with grease to prevent contamination by dirt.

Maintenance of V-belts

V-belts are operated under their initial tension, this being subject to the transmitted load. Optimum V-belts tensioning during blower running is
secured automatically by the self-aligning action of the motor swing base plate.
Drive V-belt transmission parameters – size of pulleys, size and number of belts – have been designed and optimised for required transmitted
loads and transmission ratio in such a way for the V-belts' capacity to be best utilised. Should the number of operative belts in the currently
used transmission become incomplete, the V-belts must be replaced as a whole set of the same size and type. As a rule, only belts with a
guaranteed circumferential speed of 50 m.s-1should be used! The type and length of a belt can be found in its Certificate of Quality and
Completeness.

The working life of designed belt transmission is guaranteed, provided the rules of their regular maintenance have been adhered to and belts of
the same type as originally supplied by LUTOS have been used.

Alignment of the blower and drive motor shafts was adjusted by the manufacturer as well as co-axial alignment of the pulley grooves (splines).
When assembling the blower drive, be sure to slide the pulley to its shaft in such a way that the faces of the driving and driven pulleys will
match. Maximum permissible misalignment is 0.4% (maximum gap of 4 mm between straight edge and pulley, at a distance of 1 m). After dis-
mantling the motor, be sure upon assembly to ensure proper adjustment of both shafts, their axial alignment, as well as their matching faces; see
the attached sketch:

6.4 SERVICE LUTOS service technicians can carry out inspections of blowers and blower aggregates, according to §5.9, Table 5 and including diagnostic
measurement of bearings current state, as well as vibration intensity for blowers and electromotors. The service will be charged. Please un-

6.5 SPARE PARTS Spare parts of a consumable nature (V-belts, non-return valves, even oil) are delivered upon the customer’s request. They are not part of the
standard delivery. Repairs of every blower machine are carried out in the manufacturing plant. External servicing bodies can obtain sets of
spare parts for individual blower types. For trouble-free assembly and disassembly work, they will need assembly fixtures. The main reason
for repairs is usually replacement of bearings. Should you have any real trouble, do not hesitate to contact LUTOS service.

Parts and materials needed to ensure routine servicing and simple repairs of blower aggregates:
a) V-belts – their specifications are in their Certificate of Quality and Completeness
b) Non-return valves

Failures occurring during blowers operation can be divided into two main groups:

*) A root cause can be, e.g. design error. Resistance to the current flow rate is higher than driving overpressure required by the specification of blower
parameters. This will be found usually after the first blower start and commissioning of designed equipment. Another cause can be change of resistance after
some time of operation, due to clogged piping, of aeration outlets in tanks of wastewater treatment plant, etc. or even due to insufficient training of operators –
see§ 2.8.2.
