USE OF ENGLISH: THE VERB BE (I, YOU, WE)

We use the Verb Be to express emotional state, profession, physical, and personality de-
scription, and also, origin, location, weather, etc.

Positive:

I am (I’m) Your teacher.


You are (You’re) From Spain.
We are (We’re) Students.

Negative:

I am not (I’m not) Your teacher.


You are not (You’re not / You aren’t) From Spain.
We are not (We’re not / We aren’t) Students.

Interrogative:

Am I Your teacher?

VERBO SER/ESTAR

In Portuguese, we have two different verbs, the verb ser and the verb estar. In English, it
becomes only one verb, the “VERB TO BE” to express ser (emotional state, profession,
physical and personality description, etc.) and estar (origin, location, time, weather, etc.).
