* Mạo từ xác định: THE

a. Các trường hợp dùng THE
- Trướ c danh từ đứ ng trướ c đạ i từ quan hệ: who,whom, which....
- Trướ c danh từ chỉ vậ t duy nhấ t: the earth, the sun, the moon, the sky, the world…
- Trướ c tính từ , trạ ng từ trong so sá nh nhấ t: the first, the second…
- Trướ c tên ngườ i số nhiều để chỉ toà n thể gia đình: the Taylors, the Smiths…
- The + danh từ đếm đượ c số ít: chỉ một loài vật, một dụng cụ hoặc máy móc, phát minh khoa học, nhạc cụ.
- The + adj: chỉ mộ t nhó m ngườ i trong xã hộ i: the young, the old, the poor…
- The + quố c tịch: chỉ toà n dâ n tộ c: the French, the Chinese…
- Nhữ ng từ có of theo sau: the University of London, the Gulf of Mexico. ..

- Trướ c danh từ số nhiều và danh từ khô ng đếm đượ c vớ i nghĩa chung
- Trướ c cá c danh từ trừ u tượ ng: happiness, freedom … Dù ng the khi cá c danh từ này có nghĩa riêng biệt.
- Trướ c cá c mô n thể thao: football, tennis…
- Trướ c danh từ chỉ bữ a ă n trong ngày: breakfast, lunch…
- Châ u lụ c: Africa, Asia, Europe…
- Quố c gia: Japan, England. Ngoạ i trừ : The USA, the UK, the Phillipines.
- Tiểu bang: Texas, Florida...
- Thà nh phố , thị trấ n: Cairo, New York, Ha Noi…
