ISI 70.00.00005 – Accounting Engine Hours and cycles on A320 Family

Description

How to read information on Production Aircraft Test Report document

Solution

Production Aircraft Test Report document

- T.blk is Block Time

- T.flt means Flight Time

- T.run means Running Time

Block time: block time is the total time from the moment the aircraft first moves under its
own power for the purpose of taking off until the moment it comes to rest at the end of the
flight.

Flight Time: FAA regulations (FAR 1.1) define flight hours as block time whereas
European regulations (J.A.R. 1.1) define flight hours as airborne time. Airbus use
airborne Flight Hours as per J.A.R. 1.1 definition.

Hence, for Airbus, Flight Hours (F/H)= Flight Time = Airborne Time.

Running Time: time from engine start to engine shutdown.

Flight Cycle: for aircraft, F/C is defined as a completed take-off and landing sequence.
Touch-and-Go landings are counted as flight cycles.

The aircraft F/H and F/C are recorded by the operators for each MSN.

Engine FH and FC at delivery time, based on Production Aircraft Test Report document

Number of F/Hours = timein flight = T.flt

Number of F/Cycles = number of T/O + number of Touch and Go

Are Engine cycles and hours recorded automatocally by the aircraft systems?

Engine cycles and hours are recorded by the aircraft. Access to those values for check/change
is done via the MCDU.

The above logic are used to calculate cumulative Engine Hours and Engine Cycles:

- Time is counted from wheels off to wheels on.

- 1 cycle is added after each T/O (A/C entering in phase 5)
