Proposal for Field Trip to ILHAM Gallery

AS PART OF COURSEWORK ASSESSMENT FOR

CRITICAL COMMUNICATION BEM 3492


INTRODUCTION

Critical Communication (BEM 3492) is a course enrolled by Bachelor of Law and

Enforcement students that discuss, analyse and critique the role of media and

communication in maintaining, reinforcing, legitimizing, and resisting the reproduction

and operations of power, inequalities, and ideologies in contemporary societies. It

involves the application of critical thinking skills to engage with various forms of

communication, such as words, arts, images, video and body language.

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of this proposed field trip is to:

1. provide students with an immersive and enriching experience of communication

through art.

2. expand critical thinking, foster creativity, and gain a deeper understanding and

appreciation for various forms of communication.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE AND RELATION WITH COURSE

The field trip to ILHAM Gallery aligns with the course learning outcomes of the course,

which are:

CLO 1:

Recognise contemporary critical theories and concepts of communication from

different schools or academics.

CLO 3:

Identify the key concepts which interrogate the interplay between modern media and

the production, reproduction and transformation of the contemporary social order.

Moreover, the trip enhances fostering creativity, critical thinking, and cultural awareness

among our students. It provides an opportunity for the students to connect theories of
social systems with real-world experiences as portrayed through arts. These theories are

discussed in multiple chapters throughout the course. Namely:

Participants of this field trip is expected to produce a reflective report on two art pieces

that portrays reinforcement of power, inequalities, and/or ideologies in contemporary

societies. The guideline for the reflective report is attached along with this proposal.

No funding is required as students agreed to self-fund the field trip.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the organising members request your support and collaboration in
organizing this tentative field trip to ILHAM Gallery. This experience will significantly
benefit the students and contribute to their overall development. We are excited about
the potential of this trip and look forward to working closely to finalize the details.
