CHAPTER 1: SYNOPSIS

1.1 ABSTRACT

FASHION DESIGN INSTITUTE:

“UNCONVENTIONAL” Basically means creating something from materials

other than the required one.
For centuries individuals or societies have used clothes and other body
adornments as a form of Non-verbal communication to indicate occupation, rank,
gender, sexual availability, locality, class, wealth and group affiliation
Eg: - Nowadays, availability fashion shows are taking place on a large scale.
In this, costumes are created from other materials instead of fabric. So this
unconventional fashion should be reflected in the form of Architecture or
‘Transformation of forms.’
Fashion has strength to change the face of the world. Fashion business has
intensity, energy and motion. Standard of living is increasing day by day and
people can easily afford to spend. There are several fashion institutes and hubs
that have come but there is no such institute or hub which is of national level
which will provide the students an international platform to learn and get
information regarding the fashion world.
Fashion is a very important aspect of modern life nowadays, because of
advancement in technology as well as in media and more and more people are
attracted towards this particular phenomenon, fashion which has not an academic
discipline before. Nothing spreads as fast as fashion in today’s world. Today
fashion means success, wealth, recognition and much more, it is way of making a
visual statement about one’s own self.
A look into the past uncovers the passion on which Indians have towards
beautifying the human form.
However over the passage of time fashion became synonymous only with the
rich and famous. In the past independence era, fashion seemed to have lost its
importance on the indian sub-continent as in the west. However owing the efforts
of a handful of fashion designers and the invasion of satellite television, fashion
ans fashion designer gained importance.
Fashion which was considered as a “CHILD OF FUTURE” is now being
seriously pursued by the youngster generation.

3
1.2 INTRODUCTION
Fashion is like music, is a universal language accessible to everyone and
innately understood. Fashion can be viewed as an art because so much creativity is
required to make its products. It speaks of class, fashion is creative discipline.
Fashion is reflection of a way of life. It talks about identity of the person.
Now a day’s people are getting more and more conscious about the things like
appearance, body language, presentation etc. Earlier clothing was just a medium to
protect ourselves from external agents. But gradually the use changed, now it has
become the element which reflection one’s attitude towards life. It has become an
expression of individuality. Thus it has become necessary to make them aware of
the current trends and fashion....
So this is a small effort to achieve the balance between the individual’s interest
and the platform for budding designers to show their creativity. Ultimately opening
a new vista towards better future.

1.3 IMPACT OF FASHION:

Fashion contributes to an individual’s emotional life a few other things can,
the clothes we were have the power to create feelings of the exhilaration of moods
of depression, this can cause conflict between husbands and wives or parents and
children. Fashion is the intangible force that encourages one to change his life style.
Fashion is integrated into our everyday life. Often we are unaware of its
impact on our life as we are of the air we breathe. The influence of fashion is seen
in clothing, food hairstyle, architecture, automobile, advertising, home, furniture,
kitchen appliances and packing. It is seen in the store windows, newspaper,
magazines, television, movies etc.

Fashion surrounds us and there is no avoiding it. Those individuals who insist
that they are oblivious to and unconcerned with the fashion are only deceiving
themselves “ant fashion "is itself or fashion.
Certainly you have noticed by now that fashion is not limited to clothing.
However, fashion changes seems to occur faster and more often in apparel form
than in-home furnishing, automobiles or packing design.

STYLE: It is any particular characteristic or look in apparel style, which may come
and go, but a specific style always remains the same.

ACCEPTANCE: It implies that consumer must buy and wear a style to make it a
fashion. Acceptance by a larger number of people makes a fashion important.

TIMELESS: It indicates change. What is in fashion in one year will be out in the
next. The senses become bored without variety. 4
1.4 IMPORTANCE OF THE PROJECT:
Fashion is a means of self-expression that allows people to try on many roles in
life. Whether you prefer hip-hop or Chanel-chic, fashion accommodates the
chameleon in all of us. It’as a way of celebrating the diversity and variety of the
world in which we live. Fashion is about change which is necessary to keep life
interesting. It’s also mirror of sorts on society. It’as a way of measuring a mood that
can be useful in many aspects, culturally, socially even psychologically. At the
same time, fashion shouldn’t be taken too seriously or you lose the fun of it.
Fashion guides us towards maximizing our assets and minimizing our flaws. It
depends on us how we achieve it; remember to wear cloths in which you feel
comfortable both physically and psychologically. Be confident and carry the outfit
gracefully. As we all know ‘every book is judged by its cover’ so by following the
fashion trends you can create good impression on others. So, if you spend lot of
time and money on just looking perfect don’t regret it. Through fashion magazines
or celebrities one can closely follow these fashion trends. For mw fashion is
important because it helps be to express myself, fashion is a means of “self-
expression”.

1.5 NEED OF THE PROJECT:

Nothing spreads as fast as Fashion in today’s world. With the increasing
awareness in the fashion industry, Indian designers are making their mark
worldwide. Increasing number of studios. Boutique’s etc. implies the increased
awareness in the fashion world. As a result of this, export market has also
increased.
It has strength to change the face of the world. Fashion business has intensity,
energy and motion. Standard of living is increasing day by day and people can
easily afford to spend. There are several fashion institutes that have come up but
there is no such institute which is of a national level which will provide the student
an international platform. The fashion treads demands creativity and flair of an art
together with technical knowledge together. Project requires great interest to know
about fashion and this curiosity led to reach to the roots of fashion. Fashion
designers are special people who are able to foresee the future and have strength to
change the face of world because like us they are designers.
The interest in fashion & to analyse the fashion business going all round the
world there came the fact that in spite of extraordinary talent in India, Indian
Fashion Industry lacks something. India has got rich culture background, is one of
the leading textile production markets then what is that aspect which stops fashion
business to flourish?
5
The INCEPTION toward better for Fashion Business……
1.6 WHY THIS TOPIC:

Fashion is an intangible topic like architecture. It has

strength to change the face of the world. Fashion business has
intensity, energy and motion. Standard of living is increasing
Institution that have come up but there is no such institution
Which is of national level which will provide the students an
International platform. I have great interest to know about
Fashion and this CURIOSITY led me to reach to the roots of
Fashion. FIG.1
I always think fashion designers are special people who are able to foresee the
future and have strength to change the face of world coz like us. They are
designers. The interest in fashion led me to know analyse the fashion business going
all around the world and there I came under the fact that in spite of extraordinary
talent in India, Indian Fashion industry lacks something. India has got rich culture
background, is one of the leading textile production markets then what is that
aspect which stops fashion business to flourish?

And this particular question led me to

study the current scenario of fashion business
and identity the problem which took lots
research in various fields like global market
for fashion industry, fashion for Indians,
influence of west on fashion industry and so
on........

1.7 AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

• Fashion is every changing, keeping this in view an attempt will be made in this
project to create space which can be dressed in a new form without changing the
structure elements. To create institute which serves all the needs of students.
• To design space as per proper functionality.
• Designing of space considering the courtyard planning.
• Merging of different spaces for interaction of student of different courses.
6
1.8 METHODOLOGY AND METHOD
 BRIEFING

In first stage defining the problem, identifying the scope and objectives of the
subjects this includes the general study of the subject.

 DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM. The following case studies have been done.

 ANALYSIS

Analysis refers to the breaking up of the data collection of advance systems into
simpler system in order to understand the function and application of each
system. Further more each system is evaluation in terms of its efficiency and
performance.
 SYNTHESIS

Analysed information is then collected and synthesized rearrangement of the

above analysed in order to develop the standard norms required for the
development of the proposal

 DEVELOPMENT

Development of information, depending upon the above synthesised facts,

certain rules and guidelines are specification to carry out the evaluation process.

 EVALUATE
This stage refers to final design within which upon the synthesized and
critically analysed information is used in making an advanced system, keeping in
view both the positive and negative aspects of particular system or technology.

1.9 SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This deals with the design required for an institute at national level keeping
the standard norms, requirements and the additional spaces required for a student
learning fashion designing in mind. The institute will only deal with the education
part as to train the students in a professional manner and to give them exposure by
conducting workshops, fashion show so that they can answer to the increased

mainstay of its rapidly expanding economy. Its increasing prominence is
a natural consequence of its historical leadership in textile design and

2.2 LITERATURE REVIEW

Publish in INDIAN TIMES

13TH FEB 2011
This article is from the research paper of fashion institute of technology
from New York. It refers among the source off information on the fashion
institute and the review compiling of many discussions of these sources
between themselves. This review may stand alone or be used as a part of a
larger research paper as a sort of introduction. The article also discusses
on proper sources of information to support the writer thesis or main
argument, a literature review is concerned with discussing the sources
themselves the validity in the given field. The research paper also consist
of historical background , recent developments , technical debates , areas
of agreement, leading authorities varrying approaches on the subject. Etc
it also states the importance of the chronological order used while
compilation of work. This review also informs that articles should not
primarily about you to your relationships to the literature. And I think that
a literature review should not be organized as a narrative of ones own
research process.

CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION

38
5. CONCLUSION
• Fashion Design Institute campus should be developed on the firm belief that
learning takes place not only in classrooms and studios but also nodes and
corridors, which also fosters learning through observation and interaction.
• The main concept is to incorporate environment friendly structure. The design
should offer a response to the climate, by incorporating relevant climatological
concept.
• The Corridors are to be developed more as open galleries and exhibition spaces.
• Central Courtyard should facilitate various activities interaction, stage shows.
• Courtyards should be oriented according to sun path, for proper shade
throughout the day.
• Adequate toilets should be provided for the administration.
• There should be special arrangements for handicapped people for movement
inside the structure, as there are no lifts.
• Artificial lighting should be provided in the corridors due to lack of natural
lighting.
• Proper parking facility is provided. No separate parking should be provided for
staff and visitors.
• Different activities should be organized considering their interdependence and
relation
• Building should be enriched with its colour, texture and composition.
• To make the place interesting to work use of lights, levels and intersecting planes
should be used.
• Building planning should be introvert so that the good interaction space are
created.
• The internal spaces like open to sky courtyards should not be created because it
is not possible to use in rainy seasons due to extreme climatic conditions.
• Fashion design demands continuous innovations, so there should be more
department and more brands which will accommodates more needs.
• If these functions are not properly fulfilled it makes the building a complete
failure to fulfil the present needs.
