Grammar – Second Conditional

These sentences express situations we imagine now. The 'if' part of each sentence expresses
the condition. Unless means 'if not'. We should use Past Simple after if. In the part of the
sentence which expresses the imagined consequence, we should use would/could +infinitive.
In the second conditional, we can use were instead of was even with pronouns I or he/she/it.

1. Put the verbs in brackets

1. Had
2. Stop
3. Help
4. Were
5. Had to

Possesive 's or s'

Sentences a, b and e show that something belongs to one person. Sentences c and d show that
something belongs or is related to more that one person. For the nouns which have regular plural that
ends in –s (such as ladies, students or grandparents), we mark the possesive form by adding only the
apostrophe to –s for plural, so as to get –s'. For the possessive forms of nouns which have irregular
plural (such as men, women or children), we use 's. We don't need to write anything at the end of
possessive adjectives (such as: your, his, her, our or their), because they are already possessive.
