GENERAL INFORMATION:
When an engine is returned to a Solar’s overhaul facility, some external engine components must
be evaluated and then reconditioned or replaced, as appropriate. Failure to return these parts with
the engine to the overhaul center may result in delays and an increase in cost to the end user.
Information regarding what to return can be found in your maintenance manual and here in the
Action Required section.

ACTION REQUIRED:
Engines returned to an overhaul facility should include/exclude external components as described
in the following subsections.

External Engine Parts To Be Returned

• Compressor-to-accessory gear box drive-hub (bolted to the end of the compressor shaft)
• Forward bearing housing adapter (not the drive shaft cover for the stand alone accessory
gear box)
• Air inlet screens
• Variable guide vane system cover and brackets
• Variable guide vane actuator assembly (connected by linkage to guide vane levers)
• Variable vane hydraulic actuators (2) (including hardware up to and including the junction
box on the front support)
• Servo actuator (Cenelec only)
• Number 2/3 bearing inlet tube
• Number 2/3 bearing oil drain adapters
• Fuel injectors, installed intact with all manifolds and pigtails
• T5 thermocouple harness assemblies
• Torch assembly (mounted to the underside of the combustor section)
• Bleed valve including the actuator and elbow
• All magnetic speed pickups and RTDs that are part of the engine

• Bleed air tubes and PCD lines
• All external engine brackets (excluding the aft engine mounts)
• Insulation blankets (engine blankets)
• Forward trunnion and mount
• Power turbine lateral guide (plate that bolts to the underside of the power turbine to
interface with the engine support)
• Power turbine output hub
• All PT-related magnetic speed pickups and RTDs

NOTE
If the clutch is also being replaced, all clutch components mounted on the
gear box and on the starter must be returned.

Parts Not To Be Returned

The following external parts must NOT be returned with the engine:

• Pancake style accessory gearbox assembly (unless otherwise scheduled)

• Aft engine mounts (supporting the aft end of the engine)
• External junction boxes
• Special fittings
• Aside from drain fittings, any tubing, lines, or fittings that do not both begin and terminate
on the engine should not be returned. To state it another way, for any line that runs from
the package to the engine (or vice versa) and having a fitting attached to the engine, the
line and fitting should not be returned with engine.
• Starter (including the motor, the adapter, and all clutch components (except when the
clutch is being replaced, in which case, all clutch components mounted on the gear box
and on the starter must be returned))
• Oil pump
• Air inlet duct (inlet collector)
• Exhaust collector
• Interconnect drive shaft (shaft coupling)
• Bleed duct (flexible section)
