1 INTRODUCTION
The following document is a generic example of a performance standard Passive Fire
Protection Systems and Explosion Protection Systems.

A specific performance standard is required for Passive Fire Protection Systems and
Explosion Protection Systems that has been captured as being a HSE Critical
Equipment and System or Business Critical Equipment and System (HSE&B-CES)
and these should follow the same format as that shown here.

In the example given, examples of the various aspects to be considered are given. In
practice, the text should be modified to reflect the actual intent for the specific
Passive Fire Protection Systems and Explosion Protection Systems under
consideration.

Similar performance standards for other equipment types have been developed as a
part of the AIMS project, and these follow the same general principles as those
developed for Passive Fire Protection Systems and Explosion Protection Systems.

In the template, the sections to be filled in by the user are shown with GREEN text
indicating the format of the data to be entered.

2 OBJECTIVE
This document is a check-list that will establish a common basis between EMPD,
IMD, and Field Operations on what needs to be done to assure the integrity of the
Asset over the life-cycle. It may also be used by a third party to assess the Asset
integrity at any stage within this life-cycle. It is not, however, a replacement for either
Engineering Standards or for Project Engineering Specifications.

In essence, the Performance Standard is an assurance document intended to

demonstrate that the specific item (equipment) or system is:
• suitable for its intended function and, when verified as being suitable:
− is kept in good condition (i.e. maintained in such a condition as to be able to
function as intended).
