WEEK 1

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS IN STS; HOW CAN STS HELP YOU UNDERSTAND
YOURSELF IN ACCESSING AND APPRECIATING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY?

Hearing the subject Science, Technology, and Society (STS), what comes to your

mind? An interdisciplinary branch of study called Science, Technology, and Society (STS)

aims to investigate and comprehend the various ways that contemporary science and

technology influence contemporary culture, values, and institutions, as well as the ways

that contemporary values influence contemporary science and technology. STS studies

how science and technology are developed, how they are incorporated into society, how

social processes affect their evolution, and how society responds to science and

technology. Learning this brief introduction through STS sets my expectations for the said

subject.

I expect that the subject STS will provide me with deeper knowledge relating to

science and technology in our society. In my opinion, STS is such a broad topic to study.

We have to dig deep enough to understand it. As a student, I think Technology and

Science have a significant impact on our lives and can change society. We can gain a

deeper understanding of the social, cultural, and political ramifications of scientific and
technical advancements and their effects on people as individuals and as communities by

studying STS. By analyzing the possible ramifications of scientific and technological

advancements, STS supports the advancement of moral and responsible scientific and

technological practices.

We, students, who will study Science, Technology, and Society (STS) are

encouraged to think critically, analyze the intricate relationships between different fields,

and reflect on how these relationships affect our environment. Through a deeper

understanding of how science and technology affect society and the development of

critical thinking abilities needed to navigate an increasingly complicated and constantly

changing world, studying STS will help us students become better prepared for the future.

Therefore, the study of Science, Technology, and Society is crucial since it aids in our

ability to navigate the world around us, better understand it, and make future judgments.

Adding to this conclusion, I think Science, Technology and Science (STS) subject will be

a hard subject, but it is worth the knowledges we will surely get.
