2.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Date:

6 June 2023

Venue:

SMK Puncak Alam

Targeted participant:

This Sulam program involves a total of 72 students from UITM Puncak Alam which
are from classes BA2422D, BA2432E, and BA2432F students. Besides, there are Form 5
students from SMK Puncak Alam that are involved in this program which are 376 students.
The student’s involvement in this program is very important to ensure direct and effective
engagement with the target audience, thus fostering a sense of empowerment and creating
financial awareness.

Steps:

At the beginning of the planning for this program, all the students from the three
classes gather with lecturers to discuss and briefly discuss this Sulam program during
lecture class. This briefing is led by the head of the program from a class BA2422D. The first
step we need to do is research what the suitable activities to do with the students are on how
to simplify and relate with financial literacy and insurance topics. This two-topic was chosen
because it is suitable and related with the high school student syllabus and connected with
our learning in financial planning. We also need to give an interesting and effective idea of
activity that can be applied in this program.

Other than that, in the execution phase, starting the session for the appointment of
the Board of Directors. All the students from the three classes were also divided into small
groups as a committee member. We are all assigned tasks according to their respective
groups. Next, the proposal for this program has been presented to the SMK Puncak Alam
with help from our lectures. This is to ask for permission and consent to do the program at
SMK Puncak Alam. In this program, we have secured funding through allocation of funds
from university students’ welfare.

5
In addition, each group needs to present their ideas of activity to lectures so that they
can choose the suitable and fun activities for the program. After each group presents a
variety of fun activities that are related with financial literacy and insurance topics, 6 activities
will be chosen out of 18 activities. The activities that are chosen must be carefully crafted so
that both of us enjoy and educate the students' knowledge. The activities that are presented
are based on games so we can see various types of games created and showing how
creative and innovative the students can be such as games of boards, simulations and
quizzes. We also visited SMK Puncak Alam one day before the program proceeded to
ensure everything will be smooth on that day.

Lastly, on the day of Sulam programs are conducted at different locations which are
Dewan Pidato and Dewan Gemilang. In the beginning of the program, the students of SMK
Puncak Alam need to do registration for the presence and division of groups. They also
show their interest and enjoy participating in the group discussion through the games. After
completing all the sessions of games, they need to do surveys based on their understanding
toward the topics and their feedback about the program and facilitator.

Challenge:

Every program has their sweet and bitter. Among the challenges faced in this Sulam
program are poorly organized time management. This is because the time set for each
activity is not enough and not according to the planned time. At the same time, delays
happened because of bad time management. Another challenge is hard to control the
student throughout the games. As we have a small total of facilitators, we compare the total
of students so it is quite hard to make sure that all the students will stay and behave in their
group while waiting for their turn to another station. However, it’s taught us as a facilitator to
be good in communication and working in teamwork. In a nutshell, I believe that this program
not only gives more knowledge, but it gives motivation to the students to overcome their
obstacles, and also, they enjoyed contributing to this program.

6
3.0 OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

The objectives and outcomes that we get from the National Sulam Golden Rules
activities that were already carried out on the 6th of June 2023, Tuesday is to give exposure
to the high school students on how to manage their personal financial and apply the
knowledge in their future. The activities is held to give them exposure to ensure their
finances are properly managed even if they are still young. This is because the matter needs
to be given early awareness to avoid waste in managing their finances. If they are exposed
to the matter earlier, then they can manage their finances more efficiently. The activities also,
exposed them to insurance, financial tax and financial literacy. These things can help them in
managing their finances more wisely and orderly.

To determine the outcome of this project, a questionnaire form is handed to the

students at the end of the program, which contains a questionnaire about the entire day's
activities. Furthermore, the questions have been divided into numerous areas based on their
financial and insurance understanding. The form that was handed to the students asked
about their financial knowledge before and after they participated in this program. As a
result, the program's outcomes can be precisely measured. In total, there were 287
participants who answered this survey form consisting of male and female genders.
These are the outcomes that the questionnaire form can measure;

5.0 STUDENT CONTRIBUTIONS

Every event that takes place successfully must have good efforts and success can
be gained through the participants, especially from students. The programs have taught
students many values such as they know the actual contribution that can help the event run
smoothly and the beneficial effects of their participation on the larger community. Moreover,
the programs have divided the task and duties according to the student’s interests and
capabilities to make sure the event's success.

Firstly, there are specific roles and responsibilities of each student involved in the
project which are facilitator and bureaus for programs, registration, logistics, multimedia,
technical, food management, corporate, and gifts. This means that organizational planning is
the most important aspect and areas that need more focus from the students to achieve
success for the event. It is also known as one of the strength keys for students because they
frequently practice the methods of analyzing, briefing, reviewing, and suggesting between
them in discussing every matter. Indirectly, the research, care, and attention to details of the
matter help students contribute passionately to running a successful event and also improve
it in the future.

Next, students that take an active part in successful events frequently have
specialized knowledge or experience about the event's theme or subject. For example,
students from SMK Puncak Alam know that the Sulam program is about their chapter in
learning lessons in the classroom such as insurance and tax. This shows that they are
knowledgeable about the upcoming challenge that they will face in the event, and it helps the
event become more successful plus fun because of the environment and spirit of the
students in getting new experiences and information. Furthermore, during the event students
who actively participate get to interact with other students, leaders, and also the industry
experts. This means that the students get to expand their social networks which can lead to
possibilities of career development from these connections in the future. After the events,
they get to share the information with others and gain new friends because of interaction
between different interests and backgrounds.

Moreover, when students are active in the event, they get to develop and show their
skills and abilities. It is a good platform for the students to enhance their capabilities plus
collect as much value that will help them in the future. Indirectly, students get to develop
self-confidence and trust with their peers, and it can be used as one of the terms in
experiential learning. As students advance in their academic and professional careers, the
abilities, and traits they develop via participation in these activities become priceless assets.

14
The successful event was sure to leave a positive impact because students can see
and feel the results themselves, making them eager to study hard to get excellent results in
the future.

Students’ contributions play an important role in every successful event. Their

abilities like organizational planning, community interaction, knowledge sharing, and
personal development sure give benefit them and can overcome any challenges in the next
journey for the future. Therefore, to sustain a lively and involved student community, it is
crucial to acknowledge and promote student contributions.

8.0 REFLECTION AND LESSON LEARNED

By Hanis:

This Sulam Program gives a big impact to me especially in my knowledge and new
experiences. Learning financial planning is not an easy thing to learn. However, the topics
chosen for this program are topics that are not only for students to study but are related to
daily life. I also can apply and share to them my knowledge about the topics that I learned.
Indirectly it will increase my knowledge and motivate myself. As a facilitator that handles the
booth for the activity, I’m really happy and proud because my team and I are able to handle
everything well. In addition, I can get out of my comfort zone when I hang out with them. I
can also be brave to speak in public, although sometimes it is hard to handle the student.
Besides, getting great teamwork with my teams also helps me to complete our task as a
facilitator. I am very grateful because all my team worked together to make the booth activity
a success. Indirectly, we learned how to handle the problem that came unexpectedly.

Furthermore, this program increases my communication skills and leadership skills.

By meeting with students from SMK Puncak Alam taught me to communicate with them.
This is because to communicate with people you need the right way because each person
has a different way to talk. For example, to talk with students you need to say using good
words, not bad words. Other than that, I can apply my leadership skills when I am handling
the activities. This happened when I taught the students to play the game. Being a leader is
not easy, but I can do it as best as I can.

Lastly, from the Sulam program it taught me a lot of lessons. Among the lessons is
working as a group. We must work together to make the event a success. Without my
teammate I cannot succeed to handle the program. The experience that I gain from this
event can help me to improve what I need to improve for another event in future. I appreciate
every experience I have because it teaches me to be more disciplined and braver to greet
others. Although there are some challenges that I need to face , it is difficult to control the
situation with the students at SMK Puncak Alam. This is because there are some students
who find it difficult to listen with the instructions given. Other than that, I think the challenge is
time management. This is because the time allocated is not enough for each activity.
However, everything is done smoothly and all challenges can be overcome well.

34
By Nurmiza:

In my opinion, Sulam Program give a good impact and very grateful experience
because from this program i gained more knowledge about financial planning. I admit that
before I joined the program I had no awareness of my finances. I did not do any financial
planning but when I joined the program, I realized that financial planning is very important for
everyone whether they are working or still studying. This is because, students also need to
manage their finances in an orderly manner so that there is no waste in spending anything.
Also, i can shared the knowledge to my family members and friends. The game that was
created during the program also gave a lot of positive impact. We, as facilitators who take
care of the games, also learn and enjoy playing the games. These things are very helpful for
SMK Puncak Alam students to understand financial planning in an easy way. The game also
does not burden them and in fact teaches them many things, including working together in a
team to complete the questions given and gain more knowledge about financial planning.

After that, as a facilitator who handles the program, I learned a lot experience from
the program. Among them, I became a brave, confident person to speak in front of people
and most importantly I managed to get out of my comfort zone where I was initially an
introvert person. I would like to thank my group members who is Izz, Dian and Nazifah who
helped me throughout the program. They gave very good cooperation in making the program
a success. I am also able to improve communication skills and leadership skills. This is a
very proud achievement because it is an important matter as a university student.

Last but not least, the Sulam Program provides a lot of benefits and knowledge to us
as well as the students and also to students SMK Puncak Alam. I say this because the
program is able to give them awareness to manage their financial planning more efficiently. I
would also like to thank to UiTM for giving us the opportunity to make the program a success
and trust us to handle the program. Lastly, I also want to say a big thanks to all my friends
who worked hard to make the program success, without them the program could not run
smoothly. Therefore, I am very happy to be able to participate in the program.

35
By Nurul Aqilah:

In my opinion, overall, the SULAM program gave the students from UiTM Puncak
Alam worthwhile experiences in handling the event with hundreds of students from SMK
Puncak Alam. Our participation in the program helps and encourage us as a student in
developing more skills that can be used in the future especially after we are graduating from
university soon. We have gained much knowledge while practicing personal development
skills such as self-confidence and communication skills. Moreover, I have learned that
having confidence helps us to be able to express our idea and communicate with others,
especially when we as a facilitator need to conduct and give instructions to the students from
SMK Puncak Alam about the game at the station.

Furthermore, I believe time management is key in every event so that the event can
run smoothly. Throughout this event, we are having difficulties managing our time because
there is a problem during the movement of the students from one station to another station
of the game. However, we manage to overcome these challenges by giving good instruction
that can be understood by the students from SMK Puncak Alam. This means that we get to
practice leadership skills and the impact is we can be more focused and alert with the
surrounding.

Lastly, I learn we as a team need to develop focus & teamwork skills so that we
managed to decrease the overcoming problem. In other words, it can motivate people
especially the students to focus on a strategy and give any opinion throughout the activities
so that we can achieve our goals which are successfully handling the program until the end.
Everyone knows time is gold so we as a team divide our work wisely because it can increase
the effectiveness and efficiency of the event. In conclusion, I feel happy and proud of my
teammates because we manage to handle the students and interact with them about the
insurance planning at the bottle flip game station. I feel appreciate towards the students from
UiTM Puncak Alam for giving 100% of effort in handling the event until the end.

36
By Nurul Azlin :

In this sulam project, I took responsibility as a leader in the section games that I take
care of. I was able to learn the necessary actions to be a leader. Also, I was able to
communicate with the students of Puncak Alam High School since I gave instructions on
how to play games related to the topic of insurance. Its hard to give explanation to other
people since some people don't understand our sentences, but I can manage well the way I
explain the game instructions to students, they understand how to play easily.I was able to
learn and experience how to communicate and handle student in good situation.Furthemore
I also glad that my team member cooperates well and gives ideas during discussions. I’m
grateful to have a team that individually is energetic and lively.

Apart from holding the position of head of the group section, I was also appointed as
a committee in the registration section. At first I felt a bit reluctant when I knew that this
course required a project for society. I am not a fan of social work because of my introverted
nature. Also, when starting the program I felt less confident about the role that was given to
me, but when the day happened I could perform well.

Last but not least, due to time constraints during the day program, the rehearsal
needs to be completed a day or two in advance. However, we have a strategy to get around
the time limitations. As a result, I believe we need to come up with a backup plan in case
what we had planned didn't work out.In my section there are students who didn't have time
to finish to playing the game but I'm relieved they were happy to finish another game. I feel
grateful because of the many lessons and new things I learned throughout the program

37
9.0 TESTIMONIALS AND FEEDBACK

Overall, Sulam program ended with perfectly. The school is also grateful with us
because organizing our event there. Before we end the session of games, we are doing
survey with the students for their feedback. Mostly we got positive feedback compared to
negative feedback. However, there are some students who are not interested in joining this
event. Among the questions for the survey is about location, facilitator, and the games.

Firstly, this graph is about location. It shows that the majority of the students, which is
98.6%, agree that the location for the program that we choose provides sufficient comfort for
doing activities. This is because the location chosen is very spacious and comfortable for
doing activities and can be used for many participants. However, there are some students
who do not agree with the location that was chosen. Maybe this happened because the
students are not comfortable with the crowded place.

Secondly, this graph is about facilitators. It shows that overall, 98.3% of the students
agree that the facilitator given the information about financial literacy and insurance clearly
and easily to understand. However, 1.7% do not agree about the information that is given by
the facilitator. Maybe this happened because the facilitator had to speak fast to catch up with
the time, causing some students to not understand what the facilitator was sharing.

38
Lastly, this graph is feedback about overall games that are suitable for using as a
learning activity. It shows that game group 5 is most suitable for learning activities, 63.8% of
students agree with the game. The name of the game is Insurance 101. This game will
provide the opportunity to make decisions about the appropriate type of insurance and the
risk.

In conclusion, the program “NATIONAL SULAM: GOLDEN RULES” is getting good

feedback and giving much knowledge to the students. They also think that this program
brings many opportunities and comprehensive exposure in learning them especially for their
future. Not only that, but this event gives them a memory for learning while playing.

39
10.0 NEXT STEPS

The SULAM program give various impacts on the students because of the aspects
and terms that include in the events. We discovered that students need to develop
adaptability skills since it can encourage students in understanding more deeper about what
they learn on the day. For example, students from UiTM Puncak Alam were really good in
catch up with the questions and fast in giving answers to the facilitator that had been
assigned on the day of the event. This means that students can prepare themselves before
facing with challenges that we prepared for the event. Indirectly, some outcomes can be
beneficial to numerous parties, such as sharing the knowledge gained from the event with
other fellow students. Therefore, one of the recommendations is to add more games so that
the students feel happy and have a better understanding of the topic.

The next steps for having a better and more successful event are by improving our
flow and process during the event. For example, students from UiTM Puncak Alam need to
be alert with time management because it can affect the plan and make the program feel
longer than expected. This is because, during the event, there are some matters that we
need to consider such as the movement of the students and the time used for the game in
every station. During the event, some students need to wait for 5-10 minutes before moving
to the next station because there are other students not finished their station on time. From
here, we can see that the SULAM program is a bit slow because of the uncertain matters
that interrupt the course of the program. Other than that, the problem occurs from the sound
system because during closing the sound is not very clear at the back and students are not
paying attention to the speakers. So, the improvement that we need is to be aware of the
surroundings and make sure that the correct information is received by the audience in the
next event.

The last step that can be used as a recommendation for a project's sustainability or
future developments is to have a sponsorship for the program. This is because it can less
the burden on the organizer and help the students in terms of financial or non-financial
aspects. For instance, the sponsor can prepare the amount of money to enhance the
student’s capabilities in making the programs more fun and interesting. Moreover, the
sponsor also can prepare gifts, food, and also motivational quotes for the students to keep
their spirit in learning and gaining new knowledge plus experiences. On the other hand,
students also can create new relationships with the sponsor and help them to have better
social skills in the future. The next recommendation is that we should have a bigger venue
that can include all the students in one place to have better interaction and understanding.

40
Indirectly, students can save their money and energy by having sponsorship for their event
while getting to carry out the program smoothly without any problems.

In conclusion, every event has its hardships and pleasures in terms of mental or
physical. So, a successful event gets to encourage students to motivate and do their best for
the event so they can feel the fun while making good memories with their friends and other
participants also the professional and industry experts. In other words, every event must be
planned and organized wisely so that everyone can feel happy and proud with the effort
made by them.
