CONSUMER AWARENESS AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS RECYCLE PACKAGING IN
COIMBATORE CITY

ABSTRACT
Packaging plays a primary role when products purchased. The awareness of plastic packaging is
present on the consumers. Recycling is important in the society because it is eco-friendly, helps in
keeping environment concern also helps in conservation of non-renewable resources. The essential
goals of the study is to know about the awareness towards recycle packaging inside the location of
Coimbatore metropolis. A well-structured questionnaire has chosen for the random of 102 respondents.
According to the consumer view, quality, quantity, environment concern can change their purchase
decision. In this study simple percentage tool used to analyze the awareness of consumers towards
recycle packaging.
Keywords : Consumer awareness, consumer attitude, packaging products.

INTRODUCTION
Recycling entails it is a step of converting used substances into a new merchandise product. Packaging
performs a primary feature while purchasing a product. It is the first component visible earlier than
making buying selection. It is a far interest appears on the customer about recycled packaging.
Furthermore, it also minimizes waste sent to land. Recycling decreases materials /strength required for
manufacturing new packaging. Material involves paper, metal, wood, plastics etc. Recycling is a key
component of modern-day waste reduction, and it’s the 3 elements are Recycle, reduce and reuse.
While the human population increases automatically, the need of people additionally increasing, but
there is a sufficient natural eco-friendly resources serves all our wishes.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The problem with plastic packaging, plastics can take many years to degrade, evidently. Plastics finally
ends up in the oceans, in river, and lakes. Plastic reasons pollutants it kills natural world and clearly
plastic production can expand lots of Electricity also apart from plastics we have eco-friendly materials
such as craft paper mailers, bio cotton and jute bags etc.

OBJECTIVES
• To find and measure the factors which are increasing consumer awareness and attitude towards recycle
packaging .
• To analyze the level of awareness about recycle packaging in around near Coimbatore city .
SCOPE OF STUDY
• This study improves the awareness of recycle packaging to the purchasers
• In this study consumers comes to realize about the advantages of recycle products
• This research useful to those business who takes up recycle merchandise and materials in their
manufacturing.

RESEARCH METHOLOGY
This study has used both primary and secondary data. For collecting primary data structured
questionnaire was distributed among the respondents in the google form. The research collection was
102 samples.
TOOLS USED FOR ANALYSIS
Simple percentage analysis tool has been used to analyze the awareness of consumers towards recycled
packaging.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE
• Jerad and S. Sahayaselvi (2018) in their study article entitled packaging an emerging need for
sustainable development. In this study, one of the main objective is to analyze the perception towards
sustainable development in costal belt. The study based on both primary and secondary data around
the district of Kanyakumari with 140 samples. However, green packaging might be the best solution
to arrest pollutants, and it marches towards recycle development.
• Geogrios dellis (2016) in their study article entitled green packaging. In this study to take a look at
the problem of packaging sustainable packaging and packaging substances, the secondary study’s
method this look at located emphasis on the need of sustainable eco pleasant packages and additionally
attempted to resent some new substances used by businesses in packaging based on the evaluation the
principle function is logistical in line with which the package ought to be of certain design, share,
measurement etc.
• Gonzalo Wando sell, Maria C. Parra, Alfredo alcaycle, Raul Banes (2021) in their study
captioned“ Green packaging from consumer and business perspective “This paper provides to examine
that analyzes the significance of green packaging within the network from client and enterprise
perspective. The evaluation of the huge the use of increase visible evaluation tools along with graph
visualization and word clouds collectively with the evaluation of samples of more than 100
manuscripts in this study takes a look to examine the effect of coronavirus within the environment on
the improvement of a new designs and materials for green packaging.
• Leila humorous Eosoussi, Jonathan D. Linton (2010) This paper describes the price amount
consumer will pay for products which reused or recycled materials, it also deals with the impact of
product category on customer’s willingness to pay money that customers to pay for products that are
recycled materials. It becomes discovered that consumers will turn from recycled product to a new
product within a smaller variety of charge for merchandise high practical hazard.
• Anusua saha, Ravindra hawa kuruppuge (2016). This syudy is based on determines of consumer
awareness of green products. This study includes a few limitations as properly sample size of research
have both natural and non-natural products. This examines intent to assess the expertise stage of their
green products. Several managerial implications as nicely in recent times all of us getting
environmentally green willing closer to green practices. This studies says degree of clients who eat
inexperienced merchandise in particular geographical regions will immensely help policymakers,
providers, marketers, and different relevant parties. This look at constructs to expand a perceived value
scale to assess client attention for sustainable consumption behavior across client selection in West
Bengal.

INTERPRETATION
This table shows 56.9% of the respondents are male and 43.1% are female, 96.1% are between the age
18-25, 2.1% are 26-30, 1% are from others. 90.2% of the respondents are students, 7.8 are working,
2% others. 7.8% of the respondents are married, 92.2% are unmarried. 89.2% income is between
100000-300000, 3.9% is between 400000-800000, 6.9% income is 800000 and above.
15.7% of the of respondents education qualification is HSC, 79.4% is UG and 4.9% are PG.

INTERETATION
The table shows that 75.5% responded yes, 23.5% responded neutral, 1% responded no. 36.3%
responded Advertisement, 46.1 schools, 9.8% college. 7.8% responded others. 54.9% responded
prevents pollution, 39.2% responded conserves natural resources, 2% says recycling creates job,
3.9% responded others. 82.2% of respondents are yes, 11.8% of respondents say no.

INTERPRETATON.
The table shows that 44.1% of respondents purchase notebooks, 22.6% of respondents purchase plastic
containers, 26.5% are water bottles, 7.8% are others. 64.7% of respondents know about recycle
packaging, 26.5% are neutral, 8.8% of respondent’s says no. 27.5% of respondents highly satisfied,
48% are satisfied, 21.5% are neutral, 2% of respondents dissatisfied, 1% are highly dissatisfied.18.6%
prefers plastic bags, 19.6% prefers poly bags, 57.9% prefers cotton bags, 3.9% prefers others.

FINDINGS
• Most of the respondents are between the age 18-25
• Majority of the respondents are students.
• Most of the respondents are unmarried.
• Most of the respondents income are between 100000-30000
• Majority of the respondents education qualification is UG.
• Majority of the respondents know about recycle packaging
• Most of the respondents came to know recycle packaging in schools.
• Majority of the respondents think recycling is important because it conserves
• Natural resource
• Most of the respondents purchase recycle products.
• Majority of the respondents purchase note books
• Majority of the respondents know the symbol of recycle packaging • Maximum respondents says eco-
friendly products change their purchase
• Decision.
• Most of the respondents prefers cotton bags.

SUGGESTION
• Customers aren’t fully aware about recycle packaging. The attention should be created to customers
through social media, advertisement.
• The advantages of recycle packaging need to reach the customers, so that customers come ahead to
support recycle packaging and products.
• The manufacturers need to introduce recycle packaging instead of non – recycle packages. This created
enterprise branding. At the same time also supports green marketing in the society.
• Startup companies should come forward to take up green marketing business.
• The authorities should produce norms to stop plastic bags and produce cotton and jute bags. This may
create consciousness to recycle packaging.

CONCLUSION
The packaging waste has to grow to be a large international disadvantage. Our daily use way of life
has inflated the number of packaging waste we tend to provide by using individual on a day by day,
weekly, monthly and yearly foundation. Plastic, as a packaging material, can harm to the putting
through polluting the herbal landscapes, moldering into small micro plastics and finishing as much as
the oceans and marine diverseness. A developing type of companies, agencies, and academy try to
search out renewable and further belongings replacements for preferred packaging substances that can
be surely and correctly reused, and recycled. This study included the maximum number of awareness
about recycle packaging. Replacement of recycle packaging materials like cotton jute etc. Raise
awareness towards consumers about recycle packaging.
