I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson learners are expected to:
1. identify polynomial functions;
2. illustrate polynomial functions and;
3. value accumulated knowledge as a means of understanding.
A. Most Essential The learner illustrates polynomial functions.

III. LEARNING
RESOURCES
A. References: MATH Grade 10 PIVOT IV-A Learner’s Material Quarter 2 pp.
B. Materials: PowerPoint presentation, wyteboard, visual aids
III. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminaries The students will do the activity by group. Each group will be given a piece
of bond paper. They will be given 5 minutes to write as many polynomial
functions as they can. A representative of each group will read all their
answers. Each polynomial function is equivalent to 2 points. The group with
the highest number of points will be the winner.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity Determine whether each of the following is a polynomial expression or not.
1) 4 x
2) 5 x 3−4 √ 2 x +2 x
3) −2014 x 3

2. Analysis How will you describe polynomial function?
3. Abstraction When are functions polynomials?
How can we determine the degree of a polynomial function?
In a polynomial function, which is the leading coefficient? constant?
4. Application Tell whether the following is a polynomial function or not. Give the degree
and number of terms for polynomial functions.

4. y= ( x −4 )( 4 x +1 )
5. y= √ 6 x 2 +1
C. Evaluation Use all the number the numbers in the box once as coefficients or
exponents to form as many polynomial functions of x as you can. Write your
polynomial function in standard form.
