III. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminaries Alfonso, Cavite is one of the best producers of tablea in the province of
Cavite. Tablea is described as roasted, ground and molded nibs of
fermented pure cacao beans which is also called chocolate tablet. Mang
Boy, a tablea manufacturer, determines that its profit, P, in thousands of
pesos per month, can be modeled by the polynomial function
3
P ( x )=0.00005 x + x −1, where x represents the number of boxes of tableas
sold. Using the given polynomial function, identify the following:
a) leading coefficient
b) leading term
c) degree of the polynomial
d) constant term

1. Activity Given the polynomial function in the previous activity, answer the following:
a) What is the profit of Mang Boy if he sold fifty (50) boxes?
b) How many boxes did he sell if he earned a profit of Php 149,000?
2. Analysis How did you find the activity?
What concepts of polynomial functions did you use to solve the problem?
3. Abstraction How did you apply the principles of polynomial functions in solving the
problem?
Can you cite other real-life problems that can be solved using polynomial
functions?
4. Application Solve the problem.
1) The demographer in Bayan ni Juan predicts that the population P of
the town t years from now can be modeled by the function
4 3
P ( t ) P ( t ) =6 t −5 t +200 t +12000.
a. What will the population of the town be five (5) years from now?
b. In how many years will the population of the town be 936,000?
2) You are the newly hired accountant of 7Eleven convenience store in
Indang. Your task is to analyze its revenue for the past 10 years of its
operation. Its annual revenue R (in millions) can be approximated by
the function R ( t )=0.0001 (−t 4 +12 t 3−77 t 2 +600 t+13650 ) where t is the
number of years since the store opened.
a. What is the revenue of the store on its 5th year of operation?
b. In which year(s) was the revenue Php1.5 million.
C. Evaluation Solve the following problems.
1) Villa Jovita is a booming natural spring resort in Agoncillo, Batangas. It
has three swimming pools beside a river. The owner is planning to
construct a new swimming pool with a maximum capacity of 2000
cubic feet of water. If the volume of the water in the swimming pool can
be modeled by using the function V (t )=t 3+ 40 t 2 +175 t where t is the
number of hours it takes to fill the swimming pool,
a. what is the volume of the water after one hour?
b. How long will it take to reach its maximum capacity?
2) The volume of a computer room in Zeki’s, an internet cafe in Indang,
Cavite, is expressed in the polynomial function V ( x )=6 x 3+ 9 x2 −24 x+ 36
where x is the width of the room in meters. If the volume is 45 cubic
meter, what is the width of the room?
