ABSTRACT
The industrial grow th in M alaysia in the past decades has not only brought a bout econom ic
success to the country but also the unwanted sid e -c ffe ct - environm ental pollution. M any
M alaysian rivers being used f o r the pub lic w ater supply are p o llu ted because o f the location
o f polluting industries upstream. In the long run, the p u b lic is at risk as the p o llu ta n ts not
only degrade the p h ysica l w ater quality but the presence o f m icroorganism s and chem icals are
liable to cause health problem s such as diarrhoeal d iseases and cancer. There are m any cases
o f w atershed m ism anagem ent in areas o f high in d u stria l grow th in the country such as the
watersheds o f Sungai Langat, Sungai Skudai, Sungai Linggi, Sungai D am ansara and Sungai
Buluh. The Slate G overnm ents and other relevant authorities m ust be m ade aw are o f these
problem s and therefore can avoid fu tu r e m istakes by planning the location o f fu tu r e industrial
estates with care.
abstrak
P ertum buhan industri di M alaysia pada beberapa dekad yang lalu m em baw a kejayaan ekonom i
kepada negara tctapi dalam m asa yang sama ia ju g a m em baw a satu kesan sam pingan iaitu
peneem aran alam sekitar.
Beberapa kes pengurusan kaw asan tadahan a ir yang lid a k sem purna
berlaku di beberapa kaw asan perindustrian yang p esa t seperti d i kaw asan tadahan a ir Sungai
Langat, Sungai Skudai, Sungai Linggi, Sungai D am ansara dan Sungai Buluh. Pihak kerajaan
