I asked around 10-11 of my peers to fill the questionnaire on how Waste must be managed well or their
opinions on keeping the school clean/free from waste.

First,I received quite interesting responses on how our schools waste management policy is.

Second question was What can be done to improve the waste management policy of our school, received
varying answers from throwing waste in the trashcans and separation of dry and wet waste to placing
mats in front of the washroom in case the floor gets dirty or wet, organising recycling drives, setting up of
more dustbins.

Different ways to keep classrooms clean:

Punishment to those who litter, making students clean up themselves,no throwing paper around, setting
up more trashcans around the classroom corridors, appointing monitors in the classrooms to encourage
children, organising a cleaning camps in class every month, dividing cleaning duties among students on a
weekly basis.

Fourthly,
Naming of some recyclable items used in our daily life,

Plastic book covers,old textbooks

Paper scraps,plastic bottles
Newspapers,cans,pencils,pens,cardboard,soda cans,paper plates and spoons.

Next up, ways in which waste management policies cannot help.

Lack of public awareness, education and accountability.

Insufficient infrastructure
Throwing pens in the “trashcans” instead of reusing them by buying pen refills, throwing food.
Not making use of dustbins
Air pollution,soil and water contamination
Lack of segregation systems in our surroundings etc.

Their personal views regarding the plastic bottle machinery in school

Some of them feel it should have been started later on as the machine is being misused.
Whereas some find it useful as it also provides a coupon in return.
Overall,a good initiative taken by the school.

How can waste segregation help (wet and dry waste)?

Recycling of certain items to turn them into compost or manure

Reuse Reduce Recycle
Helps in soil fertilisation and this makes it economical saving money to purchase fertilisers and other
chemicals used to make soil fertile

How is school waste management policy preventing dangerous effects in the school environment as well
as student health?

Creating awareness about Waste Management

By recycling certain items
Makes the school environment clean and fresh etc

Student’s contribution towards Waste Management

Three R’s
No littering
Thinking twice before throwing recyclable items
Conscious waste dumping

Last but definitely not the least,

How effective is this policy?
