INTRODUTION

Information on the effectiveness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among

Electronics Technology students in Computer Arts and Technological (CAT - College)

is necessary to obtain the safety. Prospective equipment like gloves, goggles, cap, boots,

etc. can be studied on the proper use and possible recommendation to all Computer Art

Technological College in electronics technology (ET). The measure of using PPE of

many students in CAT College is very low, this situation often causes injuries and harm

to almost all of the students.

The College administration is actually promoting the use of PPE to the extent of

requiring them to use it during class hours and when inside the school. This Personal

Protective Equipment (PPE) is a good measure to minimize exposure on specific

hazards.

As an example event during soldering project and repairing activities, lead -

smoke can cause illness because of the materials used is toxic specially to lungs and

respiratory. As a measure, students must be required to use suitable mask to be safe and

protected. The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must then be required for Technical

Course, specially Electronics Technology that is exposed to to much harm during skills

activities and the like.

It is important to know and to have enough knowledge about different kinds of PPE

for us to avoided many risk at the laboratory in Computer Arts Technology College.

When Electronics Technology Students in CAT college is at work practice,

administration of any control is not feasible to provide sufficient protection on most

students of engineering department or technology.

on safety and ensuring its ongoing effectiveness. According the Health and Safety

Executive (HSE) this Personal Protective Equipment are included and qualified to any

workers and student taking technology and Engineering that carry out risk assessment.

traced back as early as the eighth century BC where its mentioned according of famous

LOCATION OF THE STUDY AREA

The research was conducted in Computer Arts and Technological College Inc. The

school has a 5-storey building conveniently and strategically located at Balintawak

Street, Albay District, Legazpi City. Just at the back of Albay Astrodome and within the

vicinity of the city and provincial government.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The research study entitled “ The Effectiveness of using Personal Protective

Equipment for selected student of Bachelor Engineering Technology major in

Electronics Technology of Computer Arts And Technological College Inc” aimed to

know the following questions.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The research study entitled “ The effectiveness of using Personal Protective

Equipment for selected student of Bachelor Engineering Technology of Computer

Arts Technological College Inc students in Computer Arts and Technological College

Inc.” covered the students who were taking up with the course of Bachelor in

Engineering Technology major in Electronics Technology. This study was mainly

focused on the proper use of personal protective equipment for the safety of the

respondents. The primary source of the data gather came from a survey questionnaire

prepared by the researchers, which was distributed to the 10 selected participants of

the study. The respondents are the electronics technology students of Computer Arts

and Technological College Inc.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

To the researcher: The study developed expanding knowledge and information to

the researcher about personal protective equipment.

To the future researcher: This research can give more information to the future

researcher with the use of personal protective equipment and to get safety.

To the government: This research benefits the government to have extra safety

and electrical ideas to prevent risk.

FOREIGN LITERATURE

Small scale industries account for large proportion of jobs and play a vital role in

most countries’ economic growth and prosperity. Due to the very low use of personal

protective equipment (PPEs) employees are exposed to numerous physical, chemical,

and accidental hazards in small scale industries. PPEs are very effective in minimizing

occupational injuries, accident, and other hazards which otherwise result in substantial

manpower and financial losses. The study objective was to asses the availability and use

of PPEs as well as self-reported occupational exposures among workers in surveyed

small industries in jeddah.

The study involved 102 workers from 28 small-scale industries (vehicle repair,

welding,and paint). A survey was conducted to gather data of socio-demographic

characteristic, self-reported occupational exposures, and frequency of PPEs used by the

workers. The occupational exposures among (never exposure,sometimes exposed and

always exposed) were reported in percentages including; exposure (19.6,73.5 and 6.9%);

ust/smoke exposure (9.869.6 and 20.6%); vapor/fumes exposures (11.8,60.8 and 27.5%)

and direct sunlight (43.56.9 and 0%) respectively. The reported use of different PPEs in

descending order was; knee joints mats (50%) welding shields (50%), safety glasses

(33.3%), gloves (27.5%), face mask (26.5%), safety shoes (10.8%) and earplugs/muffs

(8.8%).

On the basis of this study findings, hand hygiene and general OSH awareness like

interventions can be developed which will help in minimizing workplace exposures

among small-scale industry can also be defined as non-manufacturing industries

employing less than 100 employees (Seneviratne and Phoon 2006).The and owned

independently, closely controlled by managers owners who contribute to the operating

capital and are the principal decision makers (Ahmad et al.,2017). There is a dearth of

actual and reliable data available to the public on the number of workers in informal

small repair workshops employ around 18.4% of total labor force.

There is no any comprehensive study published on the use of PPEs and occupational

exposures assessment in small scale industries in jeddah. The objective of this study was

to asses the frequency of use PPEs and workplace exposures among motor mechanics,

welders, painter electrical maintenance and etc of working in small workshop in jeddah.

The research outcomes are important for OSH professional, PPEs supplier, workers,

local and national administrative bodies, researcher and other stakeholder. A hand

hygiene and awareness raising program can be developed on the basis of study findings

to minimize workplaces exposure and their health implication among the studied

population.

construction workers.

The construction industry is characterized by a high prevalence of accidents and

injuries. Inadequate risk management measures, including failure to use or incorrect use

of personal protective equipment (PPE) may significantly increase the risk of accident.

The main of the current study were to measure the prevalence of PPE use and accident

and their associated factors among construction workers a cross-sectional field study

with an analytic component was carried out on 384 workers from different sites in Port-

Said, Egypt.

About 60% of workers use PPE during work. Main reasons for non-use are

discomfort, lack of knowledge on how to use it and poor fit. Occupational accidents in

the last 12 months were reported by 64.3% of workers. And the main accident types

were: being hit by falling objects, falls from height, and tool related accidents. Safety

training was the significant independent predictor of PPE’

Among construction workers, PPE utilization is low with significant relation safety

training while occupational accident are common and significantly related to safety

training and PPE use. Therefore, safety training should be provided, and PPE use should

be enforced at construction sites. In basic metal industry is one of priority industries

which includes in upstream industry. The principles of occupational health and safety

have to be applied to achieve the optimal productivity. The management of potential

hazard and risks needs to be conducted like the use of Personal Protective Equipment

(PPE) to the workers. This research aims to find out the influencing factors on the use of

PPE to the workers of metal manufacturing industry.

The research used a qualitative research with a case study design. The Construction

industry accounts for 5 to 15% of the national economy of most countries. In Egypt, it is

considered one of the main pillars of development due to its unique characteristics,

multiple and variable activities included and dense workforce.

The construction workers are exposed to a wide variety like hazards: physical noise,

extreme temperature and slippery floors), chemical solvent, cement,electrical shock, slips

falls, heavy tools, injuries by hazardous shock overexertion, using wrong tool for the job

or using improperly maintained tools that make them vulnerable to many occupational

disease ( musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory problems, dertitis, hand-arm syndrome),

occupational injuries and absenteeism at work.

Globally, construction is considered the riskiest industry: construction workers have a

doubled risk of being injured than workers in other occupation, and there are more than

60,000 annual fatal accident around the world.

According to Nocete, R. O and Enteria, O. C (2018) level of Effectiveness using

Personal Protective Equipment behavior on the basis safety precaution on Electrical

mean result of respondent are level of awareness regarding electrical hazard, Electrical

fire etc. There respondent are highly aware that is necessary to conduit a licensed

electrician or technician if changes or alterations are desired in their house wiring and

repairing appliances and to have a replacement if needed. They are highly aware of

overloading, extremely aware to hazardous circuit.

overview in basic use of proper Personal Protective Equipment on the workers. The
