SPRING 2011

Week 02/07/2011-02/11/2011

FIFTH ACTIVITY: Half and Full Wave Rectifiers, and other applications.

Please do the computer simulations before or after the lab (it’s recommended that you do them
before).

1- Set up the following circuit.

R
L v (t)
out
V(t)

vin(t)= Vm sin (377t), Vm ≥ 10 v

RL ≥ 10kΩ

Using the Oscilloscope, measure and graph vo(t).

***Take notes, the GND on the HV side is different GND from the LV side.

Briefly explain and comment your results.

2- Set up the following circuit.

R
L v (t)
out
V(t)

Repeat procedure 1.

***Take notes, the GND on the HV side is different GND from the LV side.

Briefly explain and comment your results.

3-Set up the following circuits.

R1

D1 D2 R
L v (t)
out
v (t) 5v 7v
in

vin(t)= Vm sin (377t), Vm ≥ 12 v

RL ≥ 10kΩ and R1 ≥ 100Ω

Using the Oscilloscope, measure and graph vo(t).

Briefly explain and comment your results.

3- Set up the following voltage doubler circuits.

C1 D1

C2
D2 v (t)
out
v (t)
in

vin(t)= Vm sin (377t), Vm ≥ 10 v

C2 ≥ 0.1µF and C1 = 2C2

Using the Oscilloscope, measure and graph vo(t).

Briefly explain and comment your results.

4- Set up the following simple zener voltage regulator.

I R1
R

Z
V R
dc L

9v ≤ Vdc ≤ 15v

RL ≥ 100Ω

Measure IR and VRL for the following condition:

a) R1 = 100 Ω
b) R1 = 220 Ω
c) R1 = 1 kΩ

Briefly explain and comment your results.

Write a brief summary of today activities. Remember to keep your records and own comments
in your lab notebook.
