When I was young, just like everyone else, I played video games and ever since a young age I always
wondered… how do people make these wonderful games, soon after this I discovered the world of
programming, from python to C++ I delved into this magnificent world of game development, and
thanks to this, my dream became to one day become a game developer. With my newly found dream
of game development I started researching into computers and how they worked, this lead me to
pick Computer Science as one of my GCSEs and I would like to continue this adventure at sixth form.
My studies at GCSE have provided me with critical thinking skills that have guided me through the
fundamentals of how computers work, this was further solidified by the book “Code” by Charles
Petzold which helped teach me how computers work and how they have evolved.

Studying GCSE Maths Higer has helped me develop adept problem solving skills that allow me to
methodically and logically tackle problems. This will translate well to my Computer Science studies at
A – Level as it involves difficult problems that have to be worked around and corrected to have a fully
functioning algorithm or piece of code. Studying English Language and Literature at GCSE has honed
my writing skills. Producing an essay involves careful and sophisticated planning. This will also aid in
my studies in Computer science as the subject usually involves solving compound problems which
must be solved systematically, and having a heightened ability to plan ahead and think logically will
surely aid me in solving these complex problems.

Outside of school I am an avid gamer, this not only sparked my interest in programming but also lead
to my taking on a weekend volunteer job where I worked at a phone and computer repair shop. This
experience allowed me to familiarize myself with the internal workings of a computer and also
allowed me to become more confident when dealing with and repairing computers, this experience
also made me acquainted with the structure of not only Laptops but also iPhones. Furthermore, not
only did I deal with hardware problems but I also gained an insight into software problems where I
worked to recover data from old hard drives and install newer operating systems on older hardware.

This experience also showed me the importance of perseverance when working with computers and
how patient and mindful one must be when dealing with the intricate hardware of modern
computers. I believe studying computer science at A – Level will allow me to pursue my passion of
game development and programming, and allow me to materialize my dreams.
