Rule #1: “Core” Values
Your values are pivotal to the structural integrity of
your life’s foundation.
The first rule to living a completely clutter-free life with clarity are your core values.
When your core values are clear, it becomes easier to focus on what matters to you.

Without core values, your life doesn’t have a solid foundation to build on. With them,
your base is strong and you’re also less likely to end up distracted by things or
people who do not align with what you believe in.

Things To Remember:
Your values help guide your behaviors and decision making
Your values define your priorities
Your values empower you to declare YOUR truth and stand tall within it
Your values aid you in operating from a position of strength that ennobles you

Questions To Think About:

What matters to you the most?
What qualities do you admire above all else?
When do you feel the most like yourself?

Rule #2: Declutter
In order to live a completely clutter-free life, with clarity, you have to first declutter
any and everything that is no longer adding value to you, serving you, or serving a
purpose in your life.

3 Key Areas To Focus On:

Physical Mental Emotional

Clutter Clutter Clutter

How To Get Started:

Step #1: Determine your “why”
Your “why” gives you reason and purpose and it plays a huge role to whether
you succeed or fail at your goals. When you know your “why” with clarity, you
will act and do whatever it takes to get what you want.

Start with this question: What are you hoping to achieve by decluttering?

Step #2: Start small and start slow

Don’t try to attack all of your clutter at once. It’s always best to approach each
area of your life and home, individually, one at a time. You are less likely to feel
overwhelmed and stressed, and you’re more likely to build momentum and
make progress over the long term.

Step #3: Doubt your doubts

When doubt starts to creep in and you begin to second guess your decision to
own less or ability to declutter your life successfully. Do yourself a favor and
doubt your doubts.

First: Identify your doubts

Second: Highlight why you believe them
Third: Identify potential solutions

Rule #3: Gatekeeper
Naturally, we’re quick to defend why we own something. But we don't carry that
same energy when it’s time to defend why we don't own something.

If something does not add value to your life, then you should not give it the privilege
of entering your life. The best way to manage this is through becoming your own
gatekeeper and developing habits to help you consume more mindfully.

4 Habits To Prioritize:
Define your wishes and necessities
Peer pressure and social media manipulation can make us want things we
neither need nor care about. But that doesn’t make consumerism inherently
bad. The key is defining the differences between your wishes and necessities
(wants and needs) before you spend money. You do this through Value
Alignment—ensuring that all of your purchases align with your core values and
are serving you and your interest.

Understand your reasons for buying something

A very common idea within minimalism is reduction, but in many ways I believe
intentionality is better. This helps you establish purchasing patterns so you can
better understand why you bought something. This then leads to you adopting
your own consumption rules and guidelines. Helping ensure your decision to
buy will become the result of a thought process rather than mere impulse.

Don’t copy other people

Buying things in an effort to impress, keep up, or copy other people is never a
good idea. Some reasons why are:
Most people don’t care like you think they do.
Keeping up with the Joneses is an impossible task.
Other people’s priorities will differ from yours. So attempting to copy what
they do and what they buy would be a waste of time.

Delay major purchases

This refers to more expensive, non-everyday purchases. But feel free to apply it
to any purchase decision you deem worthy. If you’re feeling fancy, consider
creating a rule of thumb for yourself. For example, delaying purchases of $100
or more for at least one week. Waiting before you buy can help improve the
mechanics of your decisions, so you can make more informed purchases.

Rule #4: Finances
Financial clutter is often overlooked in favor of donating clothes we don’t wear and
gadgets we no longer use. However, if you’re not facing your finances regularly, then
I can guarantee that you don’t know where all of your money is going. Which means
it’s likely you have more financial clutter than you think.

What To Do:
Always track your spending
Budget monthly
Ask questions

Set up a financial plan

Pay off all debt as soon as possible
Pay cash for everything (exception: mortgage)
Say “NO” to unnecessary spending
Saying “NO” in the short-term gives you the opportunity to say “YES” later to
things and experiences that will bring you both value and excitement.

Rule #5: Uncommit
The same way we declutter unused and unwanted things in our lives, we also have to
declutter our commitments if we truly want to prioritize what matters most to us.

Managing commitments is not the same thing as multi-tasking, and over-committing

kills your ability to prioritize and live a completely clutter-free life, with clarity.
Learning how to prioritize what matters means learning to say no.

How To Get Started:

Recognize when it’s time to hit pause
Take some time to sit in silence and reflect. Use this as an opportunity to write
down everything you’re currently doing and everything you want to do. Seeing
all of your thoughts and ideas laid out in front of you will help you prioritize and
plan how your time is spent.

Get over the fear of missing out

This is easier said than done, however, when we admit that we sometimes feel
this way, it allows us to be conscious of it and reject it whenever we find
ourselves starting to fall into this trap.To prioritize what matters, we have to be
willing to skip or miss out on things that are currently not important.

Prioritize your core values

Before prioritizing what matters, you have to get clear on your core values (Rule
#1 in this guide). Because your values dictate the road you travel in life, and that
road is paved by the things that are important to you.

Declutter and simplify your schedule

Always be on the lookout for opportunities to simplify your space and schedule.
The best way to do this is through prioritizing your to-do’s appropriately.
Prioritization is key to maintaining an organized and clutter-free life.

It is impossible to do everything all at once. So we have to learn how to say “no,

not yet” to certain things so we can give our undivided attention to what
matters most at various times throughout our day, week and month.

What are you committing to and why are you committing to it?
