7 TYPES OF
COMMUNICATIVE
STRATEGY
• Nomination
• Restriction
• Turn- Taking
• Topic Control
• Topic Shifting
• Repair
• Termination
NOMINATION
NOMINATION
Nomination is the strategy you use when you try to
open a topic with the people you are talking to.
When applying this strategy, you should be
presenting your topic clearly, truthfully, and saying
only what is relevant.
RESTRICTION
RESTRICTION
Restriction Communicative Strategy is a strategy that
constrains or restricts the Response of the other person
involved in the Communication Situation. The Listener is
forced to respond only within a set of categories that is
made by the Speaker. It refers to any limitation you may
have as a speaker. On some cases of communication,
there are instructions that must be followed. Those
instructions confine you as a speaker and limit what you
can say.
TURN-TAKING
TURN - TAKING
Turn-taking pertains to the process by
which people decide who takes the
conversation floor. The primary idea is
to give all the communicators a chance
to speak.
TOPIC
CONTROL
TOPIC CONTROL
It covers how procedural
formality or informality affects
the development of topic in
conversation.
TOPIC SHIFTING
TOPIC SHIFTING
Topic shifting, as the name
suggests, involves moving
from one topic to another. In
other words, it is where one
part of a conversation ends
and where another begins.
REPAIR
REPAIR
Repair is the ability to overall
address the problems that are
commonly encountered in
conversations. If there'll be any
misunderstanding in a
conversation, speakers will always
try to address the problem and
correct it
TERMINATION
TERMINATION
Termination is the ability to use non verbal and
verbal signals to end a conversation. Most of the
time, the topic initiator takes the responsibility to
signal the end of the discussion. You can end a
conversation through concluding clues and sharing
what you have learned..
