Eric filled in as temporary “Service Team Coordinator”
until someone else was ready to step into the role. That person
has arrived and in October Eric handed that portion of the min-
istry over to Allison Hughes. His focused role now is that of a
teacher. Eric teaches Algebra, Math, Internet, and 2 Science
“Inventors” classes in the vacation program. Somehow he gets
the girls excited enough to chant “Algebra” each morning.
Eric cares for the kids on Thursdays and Fridays while
Heather takes the girls on service projects and outings. He has
been asked to teach a New Testament class at SETECA (the
largest Latin Christian university in the world) but will audit a
class first in order to gain the theological vocab necessary and
see how feasible it is to teach a masters level course in Span-
ish! He also will be working with an engineering ministry re-
building in villages around Lake Atitlán (the area most af-
fected by the mudslides). Eric is also exploring how Kids
Alive can work with local churches to start day programs for
children in surrounding impoverished areas and involve the
girls from the home to train them up in a lifestyle of service.

Blaine arrived and we have used it lots with the KA girls.

Heather Ventures
Heather’s main role is the Education Specialist for Kids
Alive. This year was amazing in that we saw major improve-
ment over the course of the school year. There are 25 primary
students and 10 junior high or high school students under her
care. Over the course of the year the girls on average im-
proved in all 12 of their 12 classes. In the core classes of
Math, Science, and Social Studies, we saw an improvement of
10% or more on average.
She hopes that next year will be better than ever as she
embarks on the creation of a new extension school program
on site. Pray as she works out the details of scheduling and
hiring of teachers.
The girls vacation is from November to January and dur-
ing their time off, Heather is directing a vacation program.
The program includes reinforcement classes of Math, Science,
Language Arts and English, as well as enrichment classes like
Karate, Cooking, Computers, and Soccer. Every Thursday
the girls are participating in a service project to help serve the
people of their own country. On Fridays, the girls have field
trips or games. It’s been a very busy, but rewarding time.
