reservoir, tank or well.

1.5 The procedure is applic a ble to a ll h y dr o tes ts wa ter with a s pec if ied
limit of chloride contam in a tio n .

2. Test Kits:

1.6 Any one of the following two dif f er en t tes t K its s h a ll be u s ed to c h ec k

the chloride contaminatio n depen din g o n th e ex pec ted lev el o f c h lo r ide
in the water.

1.6.1 “Indion Easy test” K it o f I r o n E x c h a n ge (I n dia L td. )

1.6.2 “Aqua check” Kit of Ra n ba x y F in e Ch em ic a ls L td.

3. Test temperature:
The Chloride contamination testing shall be carried out at room
temperature with any one of the kits.

4. Test Procedure For “Indion Easytest” Kit:

The following sequence of operation shall be performed with “Indion
Easytest” Kit of Iron Exchange (India Ltd.) to derive the chloride
contamination. The kit consists of
a) Easy test Jar
b) Chloride Reagent A
c) Chloride Reagent B
d) Chloride Reagent C
e) Chloride Reagent D

4.1 Test Ranges:

With the above kit, the chloride contamination in water can be
cheeked for the following two different rages.
A) Low Range. Water with chloride content less than 200 PPM
B) High Range. Water with chloride contamination in excess of 200
PPM.

1.6.10 Check number of dr o ps a dded

1.6.11 Each drop of chloride Rea gen t “ C” = 1 0 PPM o f Ch lo r ides .

1.6.12 Following method derives the chloride contamination of water

sample.
a) Assume minimum number of drops (Reagent “C”) added to
change the colour from yellow to violet = N
b) Then chloride contamination is more than (N  10) PPM. Or
Chloride contamination is less than (N – 1) 10 PPM

4.3 Test Procedure: For %CL High Range (  2 0 0 PPM):

1.6.13 Fill the “Easytest” ja r with wa ter s a m ple u p to th e 1 0 m l m a r k .

1.6.14 Add a speck of Chlo r ide Rea gen t “ A” .

1.6.15 Shake the jar until it is dis s o lv ed f u lly in th e wa ter .

1.6.16 Add Chloride Reagen t “ B ” dr o p by dr o p a n d s h a k e till th e s a m ple

turns yellow. Stop a ddin g th e dr o ps a s s o o n a s th e wa ter tu r n

1.6.22 Following method derives the chloride contamination of water

sample.
a) Assume minimum number of drops (Reagent D) added to change
the colour from yellow to violet = N
b) Then chloride contamination is more than (N  50) OR Chloride
contamination is less than (N – 1)  50 PPM

5. Test Procedure For “Aquacheck” Kit:

The following sequence of operation shall be performed with “Aqua
check” Kit of Ranbaxy Fine Chemicals Ltd. to derive the chloride
contamination. The kit consists of
a. Test Jar
b. Reagent Z
c. Reagent Y
d. Reagent CL-5
e. Reagent CL-25

5.1 Test Ranges:

With the above kits, the chloride contamination in water can be
cheeked for the following two different rages.
a) Low Range. Water with chloride content less than 200 PPM
b) High Range. Water with chloride contamination in excess of
200 PPM.

5.2 Test Procedure: Low Range (  200 PPM):

5.2.1 Fill the “Aquacheck” tes t ja r with wa ter s a m ple u p to th e 2 5 m l
mark.

5.2.2 Add 5 drops of Reagen t “ Z ” .

5.2.3 Add 10 drops of Rea gen t “ Y” . Sh a k e th e ja r u n til th e s a m ple ter n s

yellow. If yellow co lo u r do es n o t a ppea r a dd f u r th er r ea gen t “ Y”
drop by drop and sh a k e th e ja r till y ello w c o lo u r is a tta in ed.

5.2.4 Add Reagent CL-5 dr o p by dr o p to th e y ello w-c o lo r ed s a m ple

water with gentle sh a k e a f ter ea c h dr o p till c o lo u r c h a n ges f r o m
yellow to Purple.

5.2.5 Each drop of Reagen t “ CL -5 ” = 5 PPM o f Ch lo r ides .

5.2.6 Following method der iv es th e c h lo r ide c o n ta m in a tio n o f wa ter

sample.

A) Assume minimum nu m ber o f dr o ps (“ CL -5 ” ) a dded to c h a n ge th e

colour from yellow to Pu r ple = N

B) Then chloride conta m in a tio n is m o r e th a n (N  5 ) PPM. Or

Chloride contaminatio n is les s th a n (N – 1 )  5 PPM

5.3 Procedure: For %CL High Range (  2 0 0 PPM): :

5.3.1 Fill the “Aquacheck” tes t ja r with wa ter s a m ple u p to th e 2 5 m l

mark.

5.3.2 Add 5 drops of Reagen t “ Z ” .

5.3.3 Add 10 drops of Reagent “Y”. Shake the jar until the sample terns
yellow. If yellow colour does not appear add further reagent “Y”
drop by drop and shake the jar till yellow colour is attained.

5.3.4 Add Reagent CL-25 drop by drop to the yellow coloured sample
water with gentle shake after each drop till colour changes from
yellow to Purple.

5.3.5 Each drop of Reagent “CL-25” = 25 PPM of Chlorides.

5.3.6 Following method derives the chloride contamination of water

sample.

C) Assume minimum nu m ber o f dr o ps (“ CL -2 5 ” ) a dded to c h a n ge th e

colour from yellow to Pu r ple = N,

D) Then chloride conta m in a tio n is m o r e th a n (N  2 5 ) PPM. Or

Chloride contaminatio n is les s th a n (N – 1 )  2 5 PPM
