Abstract

This study investigated the challenges faced by senior high school

and their impact on academic performance. This study was conducted at

Carmen National High School, Macanhan, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City during

the school year 2022-2023.

The Researchers explored the specific obstacles they encountered and the

implications for their academic performance. The research investigates factors

such as academic pressure, family problems, physical health issues, and

self-control. The study finds that academic pressure is a significant challenge for

senior high school students, with heavy workloads, numerous subjects, and

rigorous examination systems creating a high-stress environment. This pressure

can lead to increased stress levels, anxiety, and a sense of overwhelming

expectations, affecting students' ability to perform well academically. Family

problems, including financial difficulties, parental conflicts, and emotional

instability, also contribute to distractions and emotional distress, making it

challenging for students to concentrate on their studies. Physical health issues

such as chronic illnesses and disabilities further hinder academic performance,

leading to absenteeism and reduced participation in class activities. Moreover,

self-control plays a role in students' academic performance, with the need for

effective time management and study habits. The research highlights the

importance of understanding these challenges to develop targeted interventions

and support systems that enhance the academic experience of senior high

school students.

The findings emphasize the significant impact of academic pressure,

family problems, physical health issues, and self-control on students' academic

xi
performance and overall well-being. The study recommends various

interventions, including stress management programs, parental involvement,

and the creation of a positive learning

environment to address these challenges. By implementing these

recommendations, educators, parents, and policy makers can effectively support

senior high school students in overcoming obstacles and enhancing their

academic performance.

Overall, this research contributes to a better understanding of the

challenges faced by senior high school students and provides insights for

improving the educational experience in this critical phase of education.
