Gabay sa Magulang/Tagapag-alaga

Isinulat ang modyul na ito upang higit na magkaroon ng kamalayan


ang mag-aaral tungkol sa kahalagahan ng kaniyang mga karanasan sa
paaralan at komunidad, maging positibo man o negatibo ang mga ito. Sa
tulong ng modyul na ito, makikita ng mag-aaral na ang mga challenging
experiences ay maaaring maging learning experiences. Inaasahan na
maibabahagi niya ang kaniyang natutunan sa kaniyang mga kapuwa lalo na
sa mga katulad niyang mag-aaral. Sa pamamagitan nito, mas malilinang ang
kakayahan ng mag-aaral at kaniyang mapapagtanto na ito ay may malaking
tulong sa pagkamit niya ng pang-akademikong tagumpay ang mga karanasan.
Dinisenyo ito para sa distance learning o alternatibong pamamaraan ng
pagkatuto na hindi nangangailangan ng pisikal na presensya sa paaralan,
bilang tugon sa direktiba na pagkansela ng face-to-face class dulot ng
pandemyang Covid-19.
Maaaring may mga pagkakataon na hihingiin ng mag-aaral ang inyong
patnubay sa pagsunod sa mga tagubilin at pagsagot sa mga tanong sa bawat
bahagi ng mga gawain at maging sa pagkakaroon ng mga kakailanganing
kagamitan batay sa nakatakdang gawain. Hinihiling ng Kagawaran ang inyong
suporta upang matagumpay niyang maisakatuparan ang mga gawaing ito.
Makatutulong ang araling ito upang hubugin ang kaniyang kabutihan na
tanggapin ang pagkakaiba-iba ng bawat tao sa katangian, kakayahan,
damdamin at pananaw. Tiyakin na sasagutin niya ang bawat bahagi ng
modyul nang tapat.
Kinakailangan din ang long folder na magsisilbing portfolio ng mag-
aaral sa Homeroom Guidance. Dito isisilid lahat ng gawaing natapos sa bawat
bahagi ng modyul. Tiyaking maipapasa ito sa petsa at oras na itinakda ng
kaniyang gurong-tagapayo.

Introductory Message

For the learner:

As part of examining your life while trying to adjust to the new normal, it is important
to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. Doing such will help you to the adjustments that
you will need for the next stage of your life. This could help you understand the things that
happen around you and to effectively deal with different challenges.

This module is composed of different tasks as a reflection on how you handle the
demands of life. This could help you understand the things that are happening around you and
for you to be able to stay effective in dealing with different challenges.

Work on the tasks seriously; seek help if you believe you need to. Remember, in life
there are things that you cannot control. There will be negative events that will challenge your
positive dispositions. However, do not be disheartened. You have the means to overcome it.
You have that in you! Embark on this journey of overcoming your weaknesses and optimizing
your strengths in transforming into a better version of yourself!

3. appreciate the impact of experiences in school and community to academic
success.

Period: Week 1 of 2nd Quarter

Suggested Total Time Allotment: 60 Minutes

Introduction

You might have heard of the wise saying that “experience is the best teacher”. Each
year in your life ushers in a lot of experiences for you to reflect on. You may not like everything
that happens to you in school or in the community, especially those that bring you discomfort,
difficulty or detriment, but you have to bear with these occurrences with a positive disposition.

You have to remember that you cannot prevent circumstances from happening,
especially those that might challenge your patience, determination and drive as a young
learner. It’s good to remember that experiences, whether in school or in the community, will
open opportunities for you to gain lessons which you can utilize to help and inspire yourself
and others. Your negative or positive personal experiences coupled with your coping skills can
serve as your stepping stones to academic success.

As you gain more experiences, you will get to appreciate that those are just parts of
life to make you a flourishing, and well-adjusted member of the community.

Last time, you were able to determine the track and strand that you prefer. You were
also able to comprehend that it is not enough that you come up with career decisions on your
own. There are many factors to be considered in decision-making, such as family background,
socio-economic status, and your personal skills and interests.

Examining Experiences
Think of your personal experiences in school and in community, and identify those
that are important to you. Follow the pyramid-style structure and put the most important on
top. Do this on a clean sheet of paper/coupon bond. An example has been provided as your
guide. Write your answers to the Processing Questions after.

Suggested Time Allotment: 15 minutes


As a learner and as a member of your community, you have in you a lot of unique
experiences. All these experiences that you have, positive or negative, certainly play a vital
role in your life. Sometimes, people only give importance to the positive experiences and
disregard the negative ones. Without these negative experiences, you will not be equipped to
transform life’s challenging experiences into learning experiences. These learning
experiences are important in your achievement of academic success.

A wise learner is someone who is able to acknowledge and accept that in life, positive
and negative experiences have to occur. He or she is someone who is able to make use of
these experiences to learn from the past, to improve, and to move forward.
Here are the characteristics of a wise learner:

Seeks knowledge and skill outside the box. A wise learner is keen on discovering new
experience, culture and perception because he or she knows that development can be
enriched by learning from others. He or she is adaptable and learns even in the midst of
adversity and challenges.

Utilizes what he or she learns. Learning without application is a plant without growth.
A wise learner patiently digests what has been fed to him or her because he or she knows that
learning only starts to have meaning when he/she makes use of it effectively in everyday life
situations.

Contemplates on global events and concerns, and ponders how he or she can be part
of the solution. A wise learner recognizes that issues such as climate change, unrest and
inequality are important matters that everyone must be involved with.

Communicates with the world outside his or her window. A wise learner acknowledges
that he or she can learn much from the interaction with others. He or she knows that learning
should not be limited by distance and thus, reaches out beyond his or her comfort zone.

Engages with others with the use of appropriate responses. A wise learner knows that
exhibiting empathy, extending compassion and emulating maturity are marks of effective
learning. Because learning is not merely comprised of numbers, facts and historical dates but
it also consists of language and complexities beyond the pages of a book or the corners of a
classroom.

Sees technology and modern advances and uses them as an advantage to further his
or her learning. A wise learner wields the power of technology to share his or her ideas, work
together with others and discover what is unknown to him or her before.

Shapes his or her mind to be open-minded and receptive to different perspective,


beliefs and ideas. A wise learner is free from prejudice and discrimination. He or she prioritizes
learning above all. He or she knows that to achieve academic success, he or she must be
curious but always fair and innovative without compromising values.

With all these helpful steps presented, challenging experiences in school and in the
community will not stop you from achieving academic success. You are on your way to
becoming a wise learner.

1. Identify one person in your family, school or community whom you think has
overcome a challenging experience in life which led to his or her success in
studies, career or life in general.
2. On a sheet of paper, list down all known characteristics of your model citizen which
you think led to his or her success and answer the questions below.

Nagdulot ng napakaraming pagbabago sa pamumuhay ng bawat


Pilipino ang pandemyang nararanasan ng buong mundo. Sa gitna nito, ang
Department of Education ay kaisa ng inyong tahanan upang maipagpatuloy
ang edukasyon ng lahat ng mag-aaral sa buong Pilipinas. Dalawa sa sa mga
pamamaraang ito ang paghahanda ng Learning Continuity Plan at ng Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs).
Sa taong ito, inihanda ang Homeroom Guidance MELCs na
naglalayong matulungan ang mag-aaral upang maipagpatuloy ang pagkatuto
sa kabila ng mga pagbabagong dulot ng pandemya. Naglalayong maituro ng
Homeroom Guidance (HG) ang mga kasanayan sa buhay o life skills sa
pamamagitan ng self-learning modules. Nakatuon ito sa tatlong
mahahalagang domeyn – ang academic, personal-social at career
development. Binigyang-pokus sa Homeroom Guidance MELCs and mga
gawaing makatutulong sa lahat ng mga mag-aaral na magkaroon ng Rasyunal
na Pag-iisip (Rational Thinking), Malusog/Maayos na Pagkilos (Healthy
Behavior) at Positibong Disposisyon (Positive Disposition) na higit na
kailangan sa panahong ito.
Magkakaroon sa modyul na ito ng pagkakataon ang mag-aaral na
tuklasin ang kanyang kalakasan at kahinaan tungo sa pagkamit ng tagumpay
sa kanyang adhikain sa kanyang pag-aaral.
Malaki ang gagampanin ng mga magulang upang mapagtagumpayan
ang mga gawaing nakalatag dito. Kakailanganin ng mag-aaral ang inyong
patnubay at gabay sa modyul na ito. Kung kaya, hinihingi ng DepEd ang
inyong suporta na makatutulong upang mapagtagumpayan ng mag-aaral
ang mga hamon sa buhay, maisakatuparan ang mga inaasahang Gawain at
higit sa lahat, matutunan ang mga kasanayan sa buhay na kailangan nilang
taglayin sa yugtong ito.

1. Think of a quotation that will best describe how you will deal with your
PRESENT academic experience, strengths, and weaknesses.
2. Reflect on how it affects you in a more meaningful way.

All of us are faced to make decisions each day. From simple ones like deciding
whether to eat rice or oats for breakfast, to more complicated ones like deciding

whether to finish a project and meet the deadline or playing online games to win over
co-gamers. Deciding is not always a walk in the park. Here are a few known strategies
that will help you in decision-making.

The Three Cs of Decision-Making


Clarify – first, be clear about the problem that has to be solved. When the problem
has become understandable, it becomes easy to identify what decision has to be
made.
Consider – explore all possible choices or options and visualize what would happen
for each choice or option; carefully think about the positive and negative consequences
for each choice. It is also best to get additional information from reliable sources.
Choose – choosing may be difficult at times but if you are well-informed, you can be
confident that you can make the best choice.

Aside from the Three Cs, additional strategies in decision-making can also be
used. Here are some alternative strategies that can help you in your decision-making
process.

Considering the pros and cons. By carefully weighing the advantages and
disadvantages, the favorable and unfavorable and the good and the bad points can
help one in coming up with a solid and balanced decision.

Analytical approach. This can be used by breaking down a problem until it


reaches a stage where it can be easily solved. By separating a problem into its smallest
parts, its complexity is also diminished.

Types of Decision-Making

Majority Rule – This is when a decision is the one that has the most number of
support. Some examples include ballot voting and a show of hands.

When to use it:


• Options are clear and simple and not likely to be misinterpreted.
• Group has discussed issue at length beforehand but can’t come together
to an agreement.
• Group is on a deadline to make a decision.
• Power in a group is somewhat balanced, so all members’ voices are
equally heard.

Consensus Rule – When a decision is made by a group as one. Everybody agrees


on one thing in the end.

When to use it:


• Time is not limited and a decision is not subjected to be made by a target
date.
• There are different perspectives but there is a common goal.
• People are willing to engage in numerous discussions to share ideas and
to find solutions.

We always hear the phrase, “Knowledge is power.” A learner like you can make
good decisions only when you are informed. Here are a few steps that might help in
making better choices.

Identify what should be decided. This is the first step in most decision-making
situations. What do I do today? What do I wear for my class? Identification aids in
narrowing down and solving the problem at hand.

No or Yes. At times, problems and dilemmas are answerable by a simple yes or no.
But often, decisions must be considered well and it can take days and nights for a
sound decision to be made.

Find A Friendly Advice. Teenagers are often at risk of making poor decisions because
they do not seek advice from people, especially those who can help them. Don’t be
afraid to reach out and ask for help from others such as your parents, teachers,
counselors and friends.

Options are great weapons in making sound decisions. Write down the pros and cons
and give it a thought. It might help you in times of confusion and bewilderment.

Reflect. Most people reflect after making a decision but reflecting on a decision before
it can be made is a great idea. It’s not a bad thing to ask, sit down for a second and
ask yourself: “Is this the right thing to do?”

Make a deadline. Ideally, enough time should be given to make a wise decision but
there are instances when a decision must be made immediately such as when one
decides whether to accept a job or refuse it, or when one decides when to start that
school project that is due soon.

Envision a situation afterwards. Close your eyes and imagine a scene after making a
particular decision. For example, when you buy an item that you want but is way out
of your budget. Imagine yourself paying off that object. Do you see an empty wallet?
Do you think maybe it would be better if you save up for it first?

Don’t be in a rush. Sometimes when we rush ourselves, we make rash decisions instead.
Try to let a day pass before making a big decision. Think about it overnight and make a
choice later.

Weighing your options and seeking other’s opinions are highly significant life
skills that you as a learner should continuously practice especially now that we are in
pandemic.

limited materials to be used in treating patients. You were given a mission to
operate on a patient needing a heart transplant. Unfortunately, there is only
one donor for the operation but there are six patients waiting for the
operation.

1. 40-year old male; a successful doctor with no children
2. 25-year old female; a blind famous pianist
3. 45-year old male; teacher with 2 children
4. 18-year old female; unmarried and 6 months pregnant
5. 35-year old male; a priest
6. 16-year old female; high school dropout; supports/cares for a brother
who is disabled

The household members will analyze the alternative solutions to come up with a decision.
Each member should listen to each sharing. Then, you will have to evaluate the consequences
of the alternative solution by determining its pros and cons. Determine how it may affect you
and the team.

You have made decisions in the past and will be making still in the coming
days, weeks or months. To be better on this, you may want to look back and reflect
how you were doing it and be mindful on the learnings that those experiences try to
mold in you.

Did you have a moment of evaluating your decisions in the past? If so, how did
you do it? Here are some pointers for you to make sense out of your past
decisions:

1. Did you get the rightful results? Did it really solve your problem?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, that’s good. If “no”, why did you say so? Did
your solution create more problems or complications? If that’s the case, then, you may
take it as a learning experience. Maybe in your next decisions, you can check if your
option will really answer the problem or it will create more. If it does, then, it certainly
is not the right solution. You could consider other options next time and eliminate the
choice that brought you more problems.

2. What were the consequences when you made that decision?


What took place after your decision? Did it improve the situation? Did you feel good
about it? Decision-making comes with responsibility. It is very ideal for any decision to

be favorable for everyone. However, there are times that you need to calculate the risk
of your choice. Hence, it has to be a well-calculated one. You are responsible for any
decisions that you make. Good or bad, you have to own it. Be wiser with it.

3. Did it contribute to your personal growth in any areas of life (social relationship,
academic performance, career pathing, health, spiritual, etc.)
With your past decisions, can you identify any significant changes in your life in any
aspect of it? For instance, when you decided to continue your studies during this
pandemic, did it make a step nearer to your dream of finishing basic education? When
you decided to stay at home instead of going out with your friends, did it make any
difference to your safety? Try to appreciate whatever gains or personal development
you have for any choice that you have. It is a good point of reference for your
succeeding decision-making in life.

4. Did it consider the common good?

In your past decisions, did it promote the welfare of everyone around you or there are
regrets attached to it? There might be times when you are clouded by your personal
biases or perceptions. However, the common good would always be a good
consideration when weighing your options. At times, there is a need to analyze what
is good for you and for everyone. Always try to check what would be good and gain for
everyone. Your maturity and experiences aid you to always prioritize the common
good.

5. How would that make you as a person?

At the end of day, your decisions reflect the kind of person you are. However, it does
not define your future self. Our choice reveals what we think is right at that moment
though it may be unpopular for others. There is always a point of realization how our
decisions change the way we see and experience life. Don’t be discouraged if you
committed wrong decisions before. Who else did not? You could always consult the
experienced people and ask for guidance if you have to.

Nobody has the monopoly of knowledge in the world. Even experts consult with
their colleagues or other professionals in order to see the other perspectives on certain
things. There are companies who get the most brilliant advisers or consultants just to
ensure that their decisions most especially on sensitive matters are well-thought off. The
act of seeking the opinion of your respected and trusted people is no different at all. It is
part of being responsible and sound decision maker.

So, what are the other things that you can gain from seeking others’ opinion?

1. More confidence in facing problems because you know that people support you and
they have your back;
2. You are able to think properly for possible solutions to any challenges believing that
you have the capacity to do it well;
3. In seeking and learning from people’s opinions, it will help you realize that more heads
are better than one, likewise, being alone in an island is truly difficult but if you have
others, you have better chances to survive and thrive in life. Any difficult situation that
is upon us becomes less painful and uncomplicated if we have others who will walk
with us through it. We are not alone in our struggles. We only need to reach out and
ask for help.

4. When you share your thoughts, you lessen the burden that you carry. Seeking others
might help unload the stress and anxiety that you might be feeling;
5. Strengthen harmonious relationship with your significant others and lead you to
become people-oriented;
6. When you choose to seek help from others, you start to create a pattern where you
can also lend a hand when the opportunity comes for others will ask your help and
guidance.
7. You will develop to become a positive, well-integrated person.

Introductory Message
For the learner:

As part of examining your life while trying to adjust to the new normal, it is important
to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. Doing this will help you with the adjustments
that you will need for the next stage of your life. This could also help you understand the
things that happen around you, and effectively deal with different challenges.

This module is composed of different tasks as a reflection on how you handle the
demands of life. This could help you better understand and cope with the various changes in
your surroundings.

Work on the tasks seriously, and seek help if you believe you need to. Remember, in
life, there are things that we cannot control. There will be negative events that will challenge
your positive dispositions. However, do not be disheartened as you have the means on how
to overcome it – you already have it in you! Embark on this journey of overcoming your
weaknesses and optimizing your strengths in transforming into a better version of yourself!

This self-learning module has six interactive tasks, which are as follows:

1. recall the different job classifications in choosing a profession, a vocation, and future
plans;
2. value the nature of the different job classifications that entails about life, profession, and
vocation for future occupation; and
3. assess the job classifications that are aligned with your future plan of action.
Period: Week 12

Introduction

Module 12 reintroduces to you the different classifications of jobs. Take note


that during this pandemic, different kinds of jobs have become in-demand and have been
discovered to be financially-fulfilling. These newfound jobs may not necessarily be considered
by some as traditional jobs but are nonetheless wanted, desirable, and cost-effective. Some
of these newfound job classifications are online selling, delivery services, and medical
equipment business, among others. Data that take into account the changing times are crucial
in helping you consider and choose your profession, vocation, and future plans thoughtfully.
This module further provides you with significant experiences that will allow you to
value the nature of the different classifications of jobs for your future life undertakings.

As this module was designed and written to assist you in examining yourself, you will
have an opportunity to expand your knowledge about prospective careers, with or without the
presence of crises, which would best fit you through assessment.

When it comes to knowing which suitable career path to take, it is essential for you to
know your interests. The RIASEC Test is a commonly used test to determine one’s career
interests. Though you should remember that there are different bases in determining your
career path, the RIASEC Test is just one of them.
It originated from John Holland’s Theory of Career Choice. Holland, a psychologist and
a career theorist, came up with a theory explaining that an individual has skills, talents, and
traits that can be classified and arranged into categories. An individual personality can grow
in career environments they fit into.

To summarize Holland's theory:

1. In our culture, most people are one of six personality types: Realistic,
Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Some refer to these
as Holland Codes or RIASEC.
2. People who have the same personality type, when working together, will create a
work environment that fits their type. For example, when Artistic people are
together on a job, they create a work environment that rewards creative thinking
and behavior – an Artistic environment.
3. There are six basic types of work environments: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic,
Social, Enterprising, Conventional. "Work" includes doing things to achieve a
purpose, like paid and unpaid jobs, volunteering, sports, or hobbies.
4. People search for environments where they can use their skills and abilities, and
express their values and attitudes. For example, Investigative types search for
Investigative environments; Artistic types look for Artistic environments, and so
on.
5. People who choose to work in an environment similar to their personality type are
more likely to be successful and satisfied. For example, Artistic people are more
likely to be successful and satisfied if they choose a job that has an Artistic
environment, like choosing to be a dance teacher in a dancing school – an
environment “dominated” by Artistic type of people where creative abilities and
expression are highly valued.

With the aid of the RIASEC Test, you will be able to determine your personality type,
and explore career types based on your interests.

You should know, however, that the RIASEC Test is just one of the many tests that
you can take to know your interests. You can always approach your guidance counselor to
know about these tests. While you are highly encouraged to always communicate your career
plans to your parents or guardians, do not forget that you can always seek career coaching
and recommendations from your adviser and teachers, and request for further career
counseling from your guidance counselor to help you make informed career decisions later
on.

1. Ask your parent, guardian, or any adult family member to accompany you in

share their insights with you.
4. Write your answers, as well as the insights of your family member/s, on a clean
sheet of paper.
