PA Day Descriptors - November 24, 2023

In compliance with R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 304: SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR, PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DAYS
(ontario.ca), we are required to make details regarding any upcoming PA Days available to
parents/guardians. Following is a description of the upcoming November 24, 2023 Professional Activity
Day for all DPCDSB schools (elementary and secondary).

Topic 1 (AM): Curriculum Implementation: Literacy and Mathematics
Entity Hosting: School Board
Presenter(s)/ Facilitator(s): School Administrators
Format: In person
Description:
School teams will be introduced to Hattie’s 5 D Framework for structuring school professional learning
cycles. By reviewing the framework, the Multi Year Strategic Plan and the Catholic Board Improvement
Cycle, staff will have the opportunity to begin to develop their local action plans to support achievement
in mathematics and literacy. Teachers will enhance their understanding of the 3 priority areas of the
Math Action Plan and review the new language curriculum through the lens of its impact on summative
tasks used for assessment.

TOPIC 2 (PM): Anti-human trafficking

Format: In person
Description: School teams will review a centrally created module on anti-human trafficking to
understand the prevalence of this phenomena, and what signs to be vigilant for.

TOPIC 3 (PM): Student Safety and Violent Incident Prevention: Cyber Security, On-line Privacy
Awareness, Digital Citizenship and AI

Presenter(s)/ Facilitator(s): School Administrators
Format: In person
Description: Amplifying the importance of Digital Citizenship for staff and students, teachers and
administrators will review the components of cyber security and online privacy awareness. Further
review of the implications of AI will also be presented in an information module that will allow staff to
discuss their need to build capacity.
