METHODOLOGY

Research Design

A field-based, mixed method approach will be used in this study. This will draw

primarily on quantitative survey data supplemented with qualitative data that will be obtained

from interviews, key informant interviews and participants observations.

Population and Locale of the Study

This study will be administered to all 18 years and above involve in mangrove resource

utilization and management of Barangay Esteves, Casiguran, Aurora. The study area is selected

based on the presence of mangrove forests and mangrove resource users. Men and women are

also observed utilizing the different mangrove resources based on their needs and priorities.

Data Collection Procedures

The participants will be obtained through snowball sampling. The data will be collected

by triangulation that involves participant observation, survey questionnaire and key informant

interview.

Participant observation

The researcher will be participating in some activities of the respondents. All

observations during each activity participated will be recorded in a field notebook.

Survey Questionnaire

A questionnaire consisting of structured and open-ended questions will be utilized. The

questions will be translated in Filipino and will be interviewer-administered.


Key Informant Interviews

Semi-structured interview will be conducted to validate the information obtained from

the questionnaire. The informants will be the Barangay Captain, NGO and heads of groups that

work with mangrove ecosystem.

Data Collection Instruments

A self-made structured questionnaire with open-ended questions will be utilized for this

Treatment of Data

The data that will be obtained will be transcribed and analyzed by categorization and

theme formation with relevance for the study. One-way analysis of similarities, will be carried

out to determine the access, usage, and management activities between men and women.
