CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The research methodology for this study is presented in this chapter. It mainly comprises

the procedures used in this study and how they were chosen to be used. This chapter is divided

into various sections that address the selection of the study design, the selection of the

participants, the methods used to collect the data, the validity and reliability of the instruments,

and the collection and analysis of the data.

Research Design

Research Locale

Participants over the age of 60 will be individually visited at their homes in Barangay

Papandayan, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur, to conduct interviews and gather the necessary data

for this study. To avoid difficulties during home visits and result analysis, participants over the

age of 60 must be local residents in Barangay Papandayan, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.

Research Participants

The elder population of Barangay Papandayan, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur, with ages

ranging from 60 and beyond will serve as the study’s main source of data. Two (2) participants in

this study will be chosen using purposive sampling. A non-probability sampling strategy known

as “purposeful sampling” involves choosing units for a sample based on their possession of

desired attributes (Nikolopoulou, 2022). The approach for non-probability sampling will be used

by the researchers to create precise and representative samples.

Research Instruments
Data Gathering Procedure

Prior to the commencement of the main data collection, initial information seeking

should be done in order to know the respondents and other relevant initial information needed. In

gathering the main data for the study, the researchers will first secure a letter addressed to the

Barangay officials of Barangay Papandayan, Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur requesting permission

to conduct the study in their perspective area.

The researchers will personally carry out the research once permission is granted. The

researchers will introduce themselves and then explain to them the purpose of the study. For

purposes of clarity and to prevent respondents from becoming confused, which could affect the

outcome, the questionnaires that are going to be given out should be presented in their simplest

form. For respondents who are unable to read or write, the instruments that will be used in this

study will be read aloud, just like in an interview. In order to guarantee correct comprehension,

appropriate instruction will be utilized.

After the data have been collected, they will be tabulated and given to the researcher’s

statistician for analysis. The findings, interpretation, and recommendation will be derived from

the collected results.
