1. State Pigeon hole principle.
2. Let 𝑎, 𝑏 and 𝑐 be any integer. If 𝑎|𝑏, 𝑏|𝑐, then prove that 𝑎|𝑐.
3. Find the number of integers ≤ 3076 and not divisible by 17.
4. Find the GCD of 168 and 180 using Euclid algorithm.
5. Find 7 consecutive integers that are composite.
6. Using the canonical decomposition of 1050 and 2574, find their LCM.
7. Define linear Diophantie Equations in two variables.
8. Determine whether the LDE 6𝑥 + 8𝑦 = 25 is solvable.
9. If 𝑎 ≡ 𝑏(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚), then prove that 𝑎𝑛 ≡ 𝑏𝑛 (𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) for any positive integer 𝑛.
10. If 𝑎𝑐 ≡ 𝑏𝑐(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) and (𝑐, 𝑚) = 1, then 𝑎 ≡ 𝑏(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚).

PART B
1. Let 𝑎 be any integer and 𝑏a positive integer. Then there exist unique integers 𝑞 and 𝑟 such that 𝑎 = 𝑏𝑞 + 𝑟
where 0 ≤ 𝑟 < 𝑏.
2. Prove that every integer 𝑛 ≥ 2has a prime factor.
3. Prove that there are infinitely many primes.
4. Prove that the GCD of the positive integers a and b is a linear combination of 𝑎 and 𝑏.
5. Apply Euclidean algorithm and express (1976, 1776) as a linear combination of 1976 and 1776.
6. Use Euclidean algorithm to find the GCD of (12345, 54321). Also, express GCD as a linear combination of
the given numbers.
7. State and prove Fundamental theorem of Arithmetic.

10. Find the general solution of the LDE 6𝑥 + 8𝑦 + 10𝑧 = 12.
11. Find the general solution of the LDE 1076𝑥 + 2076𝑦 = 3076.
12. Prove that congruence is an equivalence relation.
13. Prove that 𝑎 ≡ 𝑏(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) iff 𝑎 and 𝑏 leaves the ame remainder when divided by 𝑚.
14. Prove that 𝑎 ≡ 𝑏(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) and 𝑐 ≡ 𝑑(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) then (i). 𝑎 + 𝑐 ≡ 𝑏 + 𝑑(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚) (ii). 𝑎𝑐 ≡ 𝑏𝑑(𝑚𝑜𝑑 𝑚).
15. Find the remainder when 3247 is divided by 17.
