Why is filmmaking considered a true modern art form?

 It is modern art because it uses the modern technologies and through it, we make art through the things
that we capture and the nature or background we use.

Explain how the following technological advances contributed to the evolution of filmmaking:

a. celluloid strip film

 Celluloid film strips were the norms of the filmmaking world for generations, way back in the days of the
founding fathers of films, the Lumiere Brothers. This film strip is thin and flexible that it can pass through a
camera and thin enough that when light is flashed from one side of it, it gets projected to the other side.
It is used to take continuous photographs that when looped together result in movement, hence a film.
Celluloid gave filmmakers an avenue to make films flow smoothly and be edited, cut up, and taped
together, to their liking. This is how celluloid strip film contributed to the evolution of filmmaking.

b. lighter cameras

 With the dawn of the digital era, film cameras became lighter and more compact because the weight of
the film stock which held the celluloid film strip disappeared and was replaced by a small memory card.
The contribution of lighter cameras in filmmaking is that, today, even though high budget productions still
use huge cameras, a normal DSLR could be used to make a film. Making filmmaking accessible to anyone
who had a DSLR.

c. sound

 Sound added another layer to a film when it was introduced in the 1920s. This revolutionized the film
industry and gave film viewers another scale to understand, and it gave filmmakers another tool to tell
their story. Today sound in film is fully realized and used to give emphasis to actions being shown on
screen and even tell a story of its own.

d. color

 After being in the black and white era for a while, film transitioned into the colored realm with Cupid
Angling in 1918 and was followed by The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind in Technicolor in 1935.
Color gave film another way to artistically express itself, much like in sound. Additions to film like sound
and color are only some of the reasons that explain why the film director is considered an artist.

e. computer animation and special effects

 Technological advancement in film like sound and color lead to more advancements like computer
animation, special effects, and visual effects. Computer Generated Imagery or CGI as we know them
today, are proof that film and the art are pushing boundaries to make itself more realistic and to be able
to mimic life as closely as possible. It also uses CGI to create different worlds that would never exist in our
reality.
 Film is relatively the youngest of all the arts as it was only born in the late 1800s. Regardless, this medium
of storytelling and art has kept evolving over the decades and has made strides that are truly awe
inspiring. From its humble beginnings with film celluloids to digital cameras and computer-generated
imagery, film has come so far, and it shows no sign of stopping any time soon. You can be sure that this
art will continue to innovate itself in the future.
