To
The Manager – Motor Claims,
Bharti Axa General Insurance Co. Ltd.,

Dear Sir,

Sub: Elaboration of circumstances behind the engine affect – Reg

Ref: Vehicle No. AP 05 DF 0011 – Name of the Insured: N.V. Narasimha Rao - Policy No.
11929092 – Claim No. F0949587 - Date of Accident: 05.10.2016

With Reference to the captioned claim, please find my observations below:

a. Preliminary Observations:

In pursuance of your entrustment, the under signed attended for final survey upon the
damaged/ affected insured vehicle
During the course, it has been noticed that:
1. There is an impact on the Electro Magnet Clutch pulley of the AC Compressor (which
is of ribbed periphery to accommodate serpentine drive belt). The ribs of the pulley
are found as ruptured
2. The serpentine belt was peeled off and the twines thus peeled were wound/ whirled
into the timing case from behind the crank pulley/ vibration damper as such it
intervened into the teeth of the timing belt so resulted the disturbance in the timing
and further caused excessive tense to the belt in turn, the timing tensioner mount in
the cylinder block was broken
3. Further observed that because of the disturbed timing, as the crank pulley relieved/
became idle of the other driven components’ load (Water pump and Cam shafts’
pulley). Due to the vigorous/ inertia of rotation, hammering of the pistons on the
opened valve heads, two no.s of exhaust valve cam shaft bearing caps were broken

b. Observations learnt from Spot verification:

As per your further instructions, the under signed headed to the spot of accident. Mr. G.
Appanna, who drove the I.V. at the material time of accident, was coordinated

During the course, it was noticed that the road at the spot of occurrence is of very bad
condition and there are so many stone crusher units are surrounded there. At the time of
verification of the under signed, the location under consideration was found at partial
repaired condition and so many blunt crushed stone/ rock pieces which were flown from
the carriage tippers were heaped on road margin side
The I.V. driver has explained that it was drizzling/ heavy down pour happened at the
material time of accident, and so the I.V. passed/ ran through the deep ditched area of the
road and so the blunt stone piece which was under the stagnated water might flew up and
caused the damage to the rotating AC compressor pulley. He further asserted that soon
after he heard the impact noise, the engine suddenly tripped off with huge abnormal noise

As per the observation of the under signed, basing on the road condition of the vicinity,
there is no possibility of driving the vehicle beyond 60 KMPH

c. Manufacturer’s conclusion:
For the mail raised by the under signed, the manufacturer concluded the narration of
occurrence as below:

“On our observation it is clear that the auxiliary belt had broken due to external
impact on the AC compressor pulley and the remains of the auxiliary belt entered into
the timing belt pulley area. On further inspection it is also understood the remains
from the auxiliary belt had disturbed the engine timing, further damaging/breaking
the timing belt tensioner mounting area on the engine block and also damaging
hydraulic guide support on the Cylinder head. Engine block is not sold as a child part
hence we advise you to replace with a new Engine assembly”

CONCLUSION:

Putting the various confirmations furnished above all together, the under signed opined
that:

1. The Coolant passage pipe was also affected to the impact in addition to the AC
compressor’s electro magnet clutch pulley. Both are because of UNFORESEEN
EXTERNAL MEANS
2. Because of the Engine bottom cover, there is no possibility to the driver to
ascertain what happened inside the cover because of the impact of stone hitting
(THE COVER ALSO FOUND SHEARED AT AC COMPRESSOR PULLEY AREA)

HENCE THE UNDER SIGNED OPINES AS WE MAY NOT DENY THE ENGINE DAMAGE AS
BECAUSE OF OPERATED PERIL IS WITHIN SCOPE OF POLICY CONCERNED

Thanking you sir,

Regards,

(T. Ramesh Babu)
