LEVEL FORM 4

CALA TYPE PROBLEM SOLVING

TOPIC ALGEBRA - INEQUALITIES

SUBTOPIC LINEAR PROGRAMMING

BACKGROUND

Sometimes we are faced with complex decisions to make. Mathematical skills can be applied to solve such problems. For example Mrs Danda a poultry
farmer keeps chickens and turkeys and wants to sell some of her stock to raise money to buy some feeds. She wants to sell at least 5 chickens and not
more than 8 turkeys. The number of turkeys she wishes to sell should be equal or more than the number of chickens. A chicken costs $6 and a turkey costs
$ 8. Let x be the number of chickens and y be the number of turkeys. How many of each does she need to sell to get the maximum amount.

CONCEPTS/SKILLS

 Inequality formulating
 Drawing inequality graphs
 Use of graphs to make informed decisions

DIMENSIONS/CRITERIA TO BE USED

 Creating inequalities
 Drawing a Cartesian plane using a chosen scale
 Representing the inequalities graphically
 Use diagram to make best decision

OBJECTIVES TO BE ASSESSED
