➢ To clarify the meaning of unfamiliar words using dictionaries,


thesaurus.

Let’s Understand

➢ A Dictionary is an important reference material which you can use to


find a word's definition, part of speech, pronunciation, syllables and
more. It is typically arranged in alphabetical order. A Thesaurus on
the other hand is a reference work that lists the synonyms and
sometimes antonyms of words. Both help you improve your writing,
spelling, and vocabulary.

Goal: Clarify the meaning of unfamiliar words using dictionaries, thesaurus
Role: You are a player in a Scavenger Hunt game.
Audience: Your classmates and teacher
Situation: In celebration of Reading month, your English teacher prepared several
activities. One of which is a game called Scavenger Hunt. As a player, you must help
find the words in the dictionary/thesaurus. Use the clues given below.
Tasks/clues:
1. The first word in your dictionary.
2. Look for a word with four or more syllables.
3. Look for a word with more than four synonyms.
4. Find a word that you have never heard of before.
5. Look for a word that best describes you.
6. Look for a word with less than three antonyms.
