Ugbo and Varona Street shines as one

of the most famous street food spots in Tondo.

Before becoming the famous food strip it is today,
only a few eateries drew steady patronage along the
Barangay 96 and Barangay 97. Two of them, Aling
Consuelo Halo-halo and Rado’s Lechon, may have
been responsible for boosting Ugbo’s prominence
as a thriving street food spot in the Philippines.

Today, apart from the two prolific

eateries, many shops make Ugbo far more diverse.
From being famous for serving tumbong soup,
lechon kawali (deep-fried pork belly) and halo-
halo (mixed sweets on shaved ice), the food strip
eventually expanded and now has a community of
food shop owners. With more people visiting the
food strip every day, Ugbo has unarguably become
a prime street food spot in the Philippines.
THE CONCEPT
Tondo has the worst image and description that anyone
knew. It is home to some of the worst slums in the country, as well
as several criminals and enemies of the state. In light of this, the goal
should be to improve the residents' quality of life and the district's
image by formulating and implementing policies that address
physical, economic, social, environmental, and technological issues
relevant to the community. These policies should not only
recommend or suggest solutions to existing problems, but they
should also be able to amplify strengths and make the best use of
opportunities to create a new impression of the community,
transforming it into a progressive and livable one.
Oasis, which means a "fertile land" in a middle of a desert
which serves as a natural resource for people to live. This was used
as the concept of the project as the proponents aim to enrich
people's lives in the community through providing them a source of
income. This will become the steppingstone to improve the quality of
life that they have therefore creating a domino effect in other domains
presented in the 8 domains of livability.
THE THEME
Fiesta
A public celebration in Spanish Colonized countries,
especially one on a religious holiday, with different types of
entertainment and activities.
The people of tondo are known for their character as a
creative, traditional and religiously oriented community which shows
their love for celebration and festivals.
The design of the community development will be
influenced by the elements that has been seen in fiestas and the
motif behind them such as streetlights, banderitas, and other historic
and religiously related ornaments that shows the rich culture of the
tondo, especially the community of Ugbo.
