1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this method of statement is to ensure that works are done according to
the approved shop drawing, standards and contract specifications

2.0 SCOPE

The method of statement covers the work to be done, equipment and materials to use,
sampling and testing to be carried out for Concrete Works at Birkat Al Awamer Logistic
Park

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project Manager is responsible for the total execution of work with his team to ensure all
activities in his scope are carried out in compliance with approved shop drawings and
specifications.
2. Project Engineer is directly supervises site team and has the full control over labour and
equipment and to obtain all permits and approvals.
3. QA/QC Engineer is responsible to control the site quality during the work progress.
4. Safety Officer is responsible for safety related matters during the work progress and
strictly complies with the approved HSE plan.
5. Surveyor is responsible to establish benchmarks, contours at both the location of dumping
and loading. He is responsible for preparation of quantities every monthly or bi weekly.
6. Concrete Technician is monitoring concrete slump and temperature, preparation of
concrete pour record, ensures that the concrete delivery tickets corresponds to the mix
design, preparation of concrete cubes and stack properly. Reports to QC Engineer in case
of non-conformance with concrete.
7. Steel Fixers responsibility is to execute the rebar works as per the
instructions from supervisor.
8. Carpenters responsibility is to make shuttering and form works as per the instructions from
supervisor.

6.0 EQUIPMENT

Equipment’s to be used at the job site shall include, but not limited to the following:

7.0 MATERIALS

8.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY

 All site staff shall wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and, as a
minimum, all staff will wear a hard hat, hi-visibility vest, and safety boots/shoes.
 Additional PPE, such as coveralls, safety harness, safety gloves, etc. will be provided if
specifically required.
 Before the commencement of the activities, all necessary permits to work will be
obtained.
 Safety induction for all works shall be confirmed and internal permits shall be ensured
prior to starting any site activity.
 Mitigation measures identified in the JSA will be in place, prior to commencement with
works on site.
 Safety toolbox talks will be carried at all work locations, as per approved HSE Plan.
 Any access to the trench deeper more than 1.2 meters shall be considered a confined
space and confined space procedure shall be applied and followed and all involved
people shall attend confined space training and hold a valid confined space certificate.

 A qualified first aider will be available on-site at all times.
 Safety Officer will monitor on-site personnel during all construction activities.
 Appropriate PPE will be worn by all workers at all times.
 Mobile phones will not be used within live stations.
 Good housekeeping will be maintained at all work locations, always.
 Adequate tents/Shelters, first aid box and sufficient supply of drinking water will be
made available at all work location, at all times, to control the movement of vehicle &
Traffic.
 The daily check will be carried out on excavations, proper barricade, and warning signs
to be placed.
 All work will be stopped in case of any incident and immediately reported to the HSE
Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager, and MANATEQ representative.
Work shall proceed only after investigation & corrective actions are in place and
approved by MANATEQ to proceed further.
 HSE Representative shall conduct periodical audits and report to the project manager
for corrective actions.
 In addition to the above Safety and work procedures, for late night and night shift jobs,
these following additional measures shall be ensured.
 All works inside the fence shall be monitored and supervised with sufficient Engineers,
Safety officers and Supervisors.
 Overnight shift shall be strictly in accordance with MANATEQ safety regulation and
project requirements.
 Adequate Lighting shall be ensured and lux intensity shall be monitored throughout the
entire night shift activities.
 Toolbox talks shall be ensured prior to work start and total manpower attendance shall
be recorded and verified periodically.
 Periodic resting time shall be provided to the workers. Adequate drinking water facility
will be in place.
 Proper traffic diversions, lightings at the access areas and banksmen with floodlights
shall be ensured for the implementation of safe and secure traffic management plan.
 High visibility Jacket shall ensure for all people engaged in the late night/night shift
activities.
 More attention shall be ensured at excavation pits trenches. Which shall be barricade as
required.
 Competent electricians shall be made available throughout the shift.

project heat stress plan.

10.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE

 Material Inspection should be carried out prior to start of work


 All material Received at site shall be free from any manufacturing defects.
 All workmanship shall be carried out by skilled people
 All Works shall be conducted as per manufacturer’s recommendation and approved
shop drawing and method statement

11.0 PROCEDURE:-

11.1 Setting out


 Prior to the commencement of the works, confirm and establish all reference
points and levels.
 Survey points shall be as per IFC drawing or approved shop drawing.

11.2 Formworks
 Formwork erected and installed will be rigid, water tight and dimensionally
stable.
 Formworks release agent material will be applied prior casting to ensure good
surfaced finish of concrete.
 Before placing concrete, all dirt, debris and other foreign matter shall be
removed.

 Before concrete placing commences, all wedges and other adjusting devices
shall be secured against movement during concrete placing.
 Before placing concrete, make sure all the reinforcement is ready, cover
blocks provided, all MEP installations completed (if any) and all approvals
have been taken.

11.3 Reinforcement works


 Shall use the approved supplier for the supply of reinforcement.
 If any small quantity cut and bend shall be done manually at work site location as
per engineer's approval.
 The tag shall show the manufacturer's test number and lot number and other
applicable data that will identify the material with the certificate issued for that lot of
steel.
 The storage of reinforcement shall be as per QCS 2014 section 5 part 11 clause
11.1.5 Reinforcement bundles shall be clearly tagged with bar schedule and bar
mark reference. The material used should comply with BS 4449 with minimum
grades of B500 Mpa
 Prior to the placement of steel in site, the material shall be inspected by the
engineer for the approval.
 The sampling and testing shall be done as per QCS 2014 Section 2 part 14 Clause
14.9 All reinforcement shall be securely and accurately fixed in positions shown on
the Drawings to ensure that the reinforcement steel framework as a whole shall
retain its shape.
 Lapped joint s shall be as indicated on the Drawings and/or in accordance with the
requirements of EN 1992- 1-1 or BS 8666
 Correct concrete cover to reinforcement shall be maintained with the aid of
approved spacer pieces.
 Spacers, chairs and other supports shall be provided as necessary to maintain the
Reinforcement in its correct position.
 Placing of all reinforcement steel bars will be checked by the Engineer and in no
case is concrete to be placed around any reinforcement steel that has not been
approved by the Engineer.

11.3 Concrete placement


 The concrete work shall confirm to all requirements of QCS 2014, structural use
of concrete.
 No concrete shall be placed in the permanent works until the consultant has
approved the materials.

 No concrete shall be placed in any part of the permanent structure until the
consultant has been given in writing.
 The concrete shall be deposited as nearly as possible in its final position. It shall
be placed so as to avoid segregation of concrete and displacement of the
reinforcement, other embedded items or formwork.
 Maximum free fall height/free drop height shall be minimized to 1.5m to avoid
segregation.
 The concrete will be placed into layers not more than 600mm or agreed by the
consultant.
 The layers shall not be placed so that they form featheredges nor shall they be
placed on a previous layer that has taken its initial set. In order to comply with this
requirement, a layer will be started before completion of the preceding layer.
 The vibrators shall be operated at regular intervals to produce dense, compact
and homogenous concrete surface. The size of the vibrating pokers will be
decided considering the layout of reinforcements and will ensure consistent mass
is obtained without segregation.
 During concrete placement operations it will be ensured that ambient temperature
is less than or equal to 42 degree Celsius while concrete temperature is less than
or equal to 32 degree Celsius.

11.4 Removal of formwork


 No formwork shall be removed until the concrete has gained sufficient strength as
specified.
 Formwork shall be removed, without shock or disturbance to concrete.
 As soon as the formwork has been removed, bolt holes in concrete faces, other
than construction joints, which are not required for subsequent operations, shall
be filled.
11.5 Curing
 Concrete shall be thoroughly wetted as soon as the forms are first loosened and
shall be kept wet during the removal operation and until the curing media is
applied.
 The curing process shall commence as soon as the concrete is hard enough to
resist damage from the process.
 Curing shall be continued for as long as may be necessary to achieve its
objectives but in any case for at least seven days.
