The Perception of a student on the learning system changes in Indonesia

Time changes, so is our education system. More students nowadays enroll at school have their
own curriculum. You might ask, “why does our education system change so frequently?”. Other
might also ask, “is our education system working properly and meet with our requirement?”.
Believe me, you are not alone having such questions. It is in so many people mind, including me.
So, allow me to share my thought on this issue. My name is Raffa and I am an eleventh grader
from vocational high school 7, Palembang.
When I was in elementary school, education system was much different to what we have now in
2020’s. During my elementary period, we were using so called C-13 and I was so confused what
this C-13 is. Later on, I found out C-13 or Curriculum 2013 is national curriculum applied for
education system in Indonesia. It was established to replace KTSP, which is another curriculum
made in 2006. When I digging into C-13 and KTSP, I understood that C-13 have four aspect of
assessment. They are knowledge, skills, attitude and behavior. As for KTSP which is stands for
Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan in Bahasa or Education Unit Level Curriculum in
English, they have three aspect of assessment; cognitive, psychomotor and affective.
Furthermore, KTSP put emphasize more on knowledge aspect while for C-13, assessment is
carried out authentically by measuring all attitudes, skills and knowledge competencies based on
process and result. It seems to me both C-13 and KTSP are quite similar and much more
individual.
As a student who has experienced both curriculums, feels like they are repetitive and not so
many differences in between. To be fair, these said curriculums for me and many others are
much less stressful than the current one. Anyway, for some students they may take the current
one as a challenging curriculum because they are mentally, physically and could even be
intelligently not ready. Some students have difficulties to broaden their knowledge since their
school have limitation to provide books and facility for learning process. To make it more
complicated, some schools have asked students to get the books by themselves. It will be really
hard for students whom family is poor and have financial difficulty. If only schools are able to
provide text books and good facility for learning process for whole students.
Recently in 2020’s, there is new curriculum called “Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar or “Independent
learning Curriculum” in English. Independent Curriculum is a diverse intra curricular learning
where the content will be more optimal so that students have enough time to deepen the concepts
and strengthen their competencies. But, what does it really mean? It means that this curriculum
gives more freedom for the Educators to create quality learning and the environment that suits
the student’s need. The way the curriculum works is making the Educators as the facilitator
while the students have to search their own study materials. In my experience, this curriculum
gives me additional problem and more stress. Why is that? Well, have you ever heard about
Introverts? Yes, introverts. A social case where a person will deplete its social energy when
socializing and I’m one of them. You see, the current curriculum is like more group study than
individual.
In conclusion, from my perspective as a student, the current change of the learning system which
is the Kurikulum Merdeka give much trouble for me not because of how it works but much like
the environmental problems, such as students or the teachers.
