GROUP PROJECT – URBAN DRAINAGE DESIGN

Preamble:

This assignment is intended to train students to undertake urban drainage design in the
context of a development project using the local hydrological procedures. At the end of
works, student should be able to appreciate the mutually-complementary role of hydrological
analysis and hydraulic design in a real life project.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be assessed and are expected to demonstrate the ability to design project
related to urban hydrology using the current Malaysian standard (CO3) to suit with the
following Programme Outcomes:
PO 1: Ability to acquire and apply basic knowledge of science, mathematics and
engineering.
PO 2: Ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems.

Assignment Outlines:

The plan of a proposed development is given. In a group of 5 students, perform the following
tasks (C4):

1. Propose the drainage layout of the area, with appropriate outlet to the existing main
drain.
2. Design the drains using Urban Stormwater Management Manual for Malaysia
(MSMA) 2nd Ed.
3. Summarise your design in a spreadsheet.
4. State any assumption that you made.
5. Present your design outcomes in the form of a report.
