PREPARING, AND
GIVING ROAST AND
TOAST SPEECHES
ENGLISH 10
A great way to spice up celebratons and festivities is
through giving roast and toast speeches.
A roast speech, as the term implies, is affectionately mocking the
man or the lady of the hour. Roast are often performed at birthday
parties, retirement parties, and other occasions where someone
with a sense of humor is being honored. The speaker balances
love and sarcasm as the goal of the speech is to poke fun
without offending or hurting..
Example:
-"Some drink from the fountain of knowledge, he only
gargled"
-"Takes him 12 hours to watch 60 Minutes"
-"He brings a lot of joy whenever he leaves the room"

A toast speech, on the other hand, is a short message of

congratulations, appreciation, aand remembrance that is
usually followed by a drink
Example:
-"May you live as long as you like,
And have all you like as long as you live."

-"My heart is as full as my glass when I drink to

you, old friend!"

-Wishing them all the health, wealth and

happiness in the world, I'd like you all to join
me in toasting the happy couple. Ladies and
Gentlemen, the bride and groom.”
