The first you want to do is to
choose the type you want to use
for you spatula and be sure that
the type your using will not have
adverse effects on your or others
Step 1: Choosing health, so when you have found
the wood the wood, you want run it by the
teacher so they can be sure it
won't kill you.
Step 2: Cutting it out
with the Miter Saw

After you chosen your wood cut it down to size or

to get rid of any unsavory parts with the miter
saw
Once you've cut the piece,
Step 3: measure out the thickness
of the piece and draw out
Drawing out thew handle to that size
and after that draw the
the spatula blade and when
transitioning from the
handle to the blade, be
sure to round it out.
Step 4: Cutting out the
spatula with the Band Saw
After drawing out the spatula it's time to cut it out using
the band saw, be sure to wear the proper safety
equipment and make sure that your hands don’t get near
the saw and cut around the pencil as you can sand it off
later.
Step 5 + 6: Drawing the 'x'
for the Lathe & Hammering
in the bit
Once cut out on both the top and bottom
of the spatula draw an x with a ruler to
determine the center and afterwards take
out the bit using a pole and lightly tap it
with a hammer to take it out and line up
the bit with the center of the x on either
side and hit with a hammer and to keep
the spatula stable keep low in the clamp.
After the bit is inserted, put it back into the lathe and on the
Step 7: Setting other end line it up with the center and then tighten both
sides into place and then line up the tool rest with the handle
up the lathe and set it so the lathe spins forward and then wear a face
shield throughout the process of using the lathe.
Step 8 + 9: Cutting out the
handle + Rounding the
edge of the blade

Turn on the lathe and using a scraper begin to

shape the handle into what you want it to be and
after the handle it shaped loosen the tool rest
and move it to the midsection between the
handle and blade and begin to round it out, if you
want to you can design the handle, after that
round out the sides of the blade.
Once done with that use 60p
sandpaper on the spatula and after
that use 100 and then 320 to make
it smooth and after that use a
parting tool to cut out a small bit of
the end of the handle and after
finishing with that take the spatula
out of the lathe.
Step 12: Drawing out
the blade

After the tool is free from the lathe,

on the sides of the blade use a tool to
draw a line down the center and from
that line draw to lines going out
diagonally.
Step 13: Cutting
out the blade

After drawing the lines, using the

bandsaw cut out the blade going
along the lines and be sure to as
smooth as you can, be sure to flip the
spatula to cut on the other side as
well.
Step 14 : Sanding the
blade

Once cut go to the belt sander and sand the

blade on both sides, look at the blade from the
side to be sure that you're sanding the blade
evenly and after that use scrap sandpaper or a
palm sander to fine tune it.
Step 15, 16 & 17 :
Cutting out the end,
Sanding the end of the
handle & Rounding out
any edges

After the blade has been

sanded out, it's time to
cut out the part you used
the parting tool on so
using any saw cut out the
bit and after you've cut it
sand the end of the
handle to make it
round. After that using a
palm sander round out
any edges left on the
spatula.
