Measuring
The first step we did was to measure and
draw what we were making our spinning
top look like. I needed to find the center
of halfway point so I could drill my
hole. I found the middle point of 2.5in
which is 1.25in and the middle of 3in is
1.5 which gave me the place where I can
drill my hole.
The Drill Press
I used the drill press to drill my hole through
the center of my middle. I got hearing
protection and eye protection to use the drill.
I rolled up my sleeves and made sure all the
clamps are ready. I lined up my piece of wood
with the drill and once I checked and made
sure it was. Then I went slowly into the wood
a few times and I switched sides. I did this
three times for every hole we did in the wood.
The Scroll Saw
I used the scroll saw to First thing you do to
operate the scroll saw is to get hearing and
eye protection and a refresher on how to use
it for Mr. Spiers. Then you roll up your
sleeves and put your finger away from the cut
line and move the wood through the blade.
When there is a lot saw dust just blow it away
if a friend is nearby don’t talk to them. The I
turned of the tool and cleaned up the wood
pieces I cut.
Sanding
I used the sander to clean up my cuts from the
scroll saw. For sanding the safety you need is
eye and hearing protection. You also need to
roll up your sleeves and any hair in your shirt.
The first thing you do is turn on the sander.
Once the sander is at full speed you find an
area with good sandpaper and you sand the
area you want. Once done I turn off the
machine wait for it to stop and I have finished
sanding.
Using the Toy
How to use the toy is to first put the string
slightly through the hole and once it is in you
grab the string and use the circle at the
bottom to spin up the string. Then you make
sure its tight and firm. Then you pull the
string slow to fast at the end and bring the
handle up off the floor and it will spin for a
long time. You can repeat the process after
that.
