The project aims to design, build, and implement a waterwheel-based renewable energy system for a school using recycled materials. Over two weeks, students will research designs, gather materials, construct the waterwheel, connect it to a generator, and test the system. The waterwheel will harness the power of running water to generate electricity and reduce the school's energy needs in a sustainable way.

Description of the Project:
The project "Generating Renewable Energy through Waterwheel will be design to make the school environment using the power of water in order to generate a sustainable energy. By implementing a waterwheel system in school, it will contribute to the school's energy needs, potentially reducing the use of regular electricity. It will be design using recycled materials such as old pipes, scrap wood for the frame, plastic container, and a waterwheel blades using recycled plastic or a popsicle stick. We will also use a metal axle, hub for attaching blades and a bearings that can be salvaged from old machine. For generator, we will be using a DC generator which can also be salvaged or bought second-hand and a pulley system to connect the waterwheel to the generator. Time Table: Week 1 Dates No. of Hours Task Description Wednesday January 24, 2024 2-3 hours Outlining the goals and objectives of making this project and exploring different designs to determine the most suitable one for this project. Identify and gather the materials and resources needed for the waterwheel construction. We will also search for available and recycled materials to align with sustainability goals
Thursday January 25, 2024 2-3 hours Finalize the design based on research findings and available resources
Week 2 Dates No. of Hours Task Description
Monday January 30, 2024 2-3 hours Create detailed sketch of the waterwheel system. We will also incorporate safety features into the design to ensure the safety of those involved in the construction and operation. Tuesday January 31, 2024 2-3 hours Purchase or gather all required materials, ensuring they align with the finalized design. Wednesday February 1, 2024 2-3 hours Prepare materials for construction, such as cutting, shaping, and organizing components Thursday February 2, 2024 2-3 hours Begin constructing the waterwheel according to the finalized design. Assemble the hub and axle components, ensuring proper alignment and stability. Install bearings to reduce friction and facilitate smooth rotation.
Week 2 Dates No. of Hours Task Description
Monday February 6, 2024 2-3 hours Connect the generator to the waterwheel system, establishing the power generation mechanism. Tuesday February 7, 2024 2-3 hours Implement a pulley system to transfer rotational motion from the waterwheel to the generator. Wednesday February 8, 2024 2-3 hours Conduct initial tests to assess the functionality and efficiency of the waterwheel generator. Identify areas that needs to be improve. Thursday February 9, 2024 2-3 hours Make necessary adjustment to finalize the model.
