Which of the gifts listed above that you have received? Do you like it? Why/ Why not?

II/ Grammar: Present Perfect

III/ Build up vocabulary

Activity 1: Listen to a conversation between Sofia and her brother Martin talking about what gifts
they should give to their mom. Pay attention to the bold words or phrases in the tapescript.

Sofia: Hey, Martin! Mom's birthday is coming up. What should we buy for her?. Any ideas?

Martin: I've thought about that too. How about we get her a high-quality designer handbag? I’ve just
seen a lovely one from a renowned brand in a nearby store. It's called "Luonvuituoi"

Sofia: "Luonvuituoi" huh? Sounds like a good choice. Do you have any details on the bag, like the price?

Martin: Yes, it's a bit lavish, but I think it's worth it. The price tag is around $200, but I've heard it's on
sale this week. Plus, the brand is known for its quality, so it should last her a long time.

Sofia: Yeah it really costs us an arm and a leg. But you know, you get what you pay for. Do you know if
it's spacious enough for her things?

Martin: Absolutely. It's a perfect fit for her daily essentials. They say it's a versatile bag, which means she
can use it for different occasions, from work to outings.

Sofia: That's a great idea! Mom loves versatile things. I think she'll be over the moon with this gift.

Activity 2: Put the words above into the correct categories.

1
Phrases

Quality

Price

Feelings

Present perfect tense

Activity 3: Pair work.

Make sentences for each word above. Share your sentences with your partner.
E.g: An Iphone is a high-quality product, so it's a bit lavish.
IV/ Pronunciation - Chunking
Activity 1: Listen to the following short audios and decide which one is easier to listen to. Why?

Tips:
Did you notice that it was easier to listen to the second idea? This is because the speaker used
chunking and pausing. Doing this across the three parts of your IELTS speaking test will make it
easier for the examiner to understand and follow your ideas, and it will have a positive effect on
your pronunciation score.
You can use pausing:
When giving a list of things (e.g. I do many things on the weekend.
For example, // I go to the gym, // visit my friends // and go grocery shopping.)
After giving important information.
After using signposts (e.g. however, for example, but, so).
At the end of an idea/sentence, and before starting a new one.
At the end of a dependent clause.

"Hey! Mom's birthday is coming//. How about we get her a high-quality designer handbag? // I
saw a lovely one from a renowned brand in a nearby store. // It's called 'Luonvuituoi’. Actually//,
it's a bit lavish//, but I think it's worth it//. The price tag is around $200//, but I've heard it's on
