Instructional Planning

(The process of systematically planning, developing, evaluating and managing the instructional
process by using principles of teaching and learning - D.O. 42, s. 2016)

Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) Format

Learning Area:
DLP No.: Grade Level: Quarter: Duration: Date:
27 SCIENCE V-LC FOURTH 50 Feb. 20,2019
Learning Competency/ies: Code:
Describe the effects of the winds, given a certain storm warning
(Taken from the Curriculum Guide) signal S5FE-IVf-6 (Day 2 of 5)
A meteorologist is a scientist who studies weather, and may, like a weather presenter (who often are not
scientists) engage in weather forecasting, or may solely conduct research. These are several measuring
devices used to measure pressure, wind speed and wind direction.

2. Content Identifying Emergency Kits and its Uses

3. Learning Resources pictures, charts, materials listed in the activity, Curriculum Guide , Internet, LRMDS, LM, TG,

4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Activity
Checking of assignments.
5 minutes Call one pupil to read his notes about an interview with his grandparents .

4.2 Activity

Learn how to make an anemometer.

Materials:
5 small paper cups
Hole punch
Scissors
Duct tape
3 thin wooden
dowels empty
watch
Procedure:
1. Use the hole punch to make a hole in the side of each of the 4 paper cups.
2. Use the hole punch to make 4 holes spaced evenly around the rim of the last cup.
3. Slide of 2 of the wooden dowels through the holes in the center cup.
4. Insert the ends of the dowels into the holes of the cups and tape them
into place. Make sure the cups are all facing the same direction.
5. Take the last wooden dowel and make a hole in the bottom of the
center cup. Push the dowel up until it meets the X and tape everything together. These will be your rotation
axis. 6. Put the center dowel into an empty water bottle
and begin testing.

4.3 Analysis
Ask:
1. What device is used to measure wind speed?
2. What device is used to measure wind direction?
10 minutes 3. How is atmospheric pressure being measured?
4. What are the two kinds of barometer that measures atmospheric pressure?
5. What weather instrument used to measure humidity?

4.4 Abstraction There are several weather instruments used to measure atmospheric pressure, humidity, wind speed, and
wind pressure. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. An anemometer is used to measure wind
speed. Wind vane is used to measure wind direction. Hygrometer is used to measure humidity. Barometer
measures atmospheric pressure.

5 minutes

4.5 Application
Ask:
If a weather forecaster predicts high pressure, what kind of weather might we have?
10 minutes
A) Calm weather B) Stormy weather C) Snowy weather
4.6 Assessment Answer the following questions and underline your answer.
1. This weather
instrument measure air pressure. ( thermometer, barometer, rain gauge,
anemometer) 2.This
type of weather instrument measures air temperature. ( wind vane, barometer,

4.7 Assignment Enhancing / improving the day’s
lesson
Cut out pictures of weather instruments and mount them on a bond paper.
2 minutes
4.8 Concluding Activity
Guessing Game:
I am a weather instrument. People use me to measure temperature. I am bright red on hot days.
3 minutes
What I am? (Thermometer)
