Relation Annex III and IMDG Code

• Annex III MARPOL has strong relation

to IMDG Code, since the detail
application and regulation is described
detail in IMDG code.
• In order to know clearly the content of
annex III, you have to read very
carefully IMDG Code

Application
(Regulation 1)

(1) The regulaton of this annex apply to all

ships carryng substances in package form.
(1) ……,Harmfull substances are those substances
which are identified as marine pollutans in IMDG
Code

containment specified for harmfull substances in
the IMDG code

Packaging

• Package shall be adequate to minimize

the hazard to the marine
environment,…..

Marking and Labelling

(Regulation 3)

• Packages containing a harmfull substance shall be

durably marked with the correct technical name
(trade name alone shall not be used) and, further,
shall be durably marked or labelled to indicate that
the substance is marine pollutant. Such
indentification ……., by use of relevant UN number. (
you have to see in IMDG Code)

Documentation

• Documents containing a harmfull substance shall be

durably marked with the correct technical name
(trade name alone shall not be used) and, further,
shall be durably marked or labelled to indicate that
the substance is marine pollutant
• The shipping documents supplied by the shipper shall
include, or be accompanied by, a signed certificate or
declaration that the shipment offered for carriage is
properlly package and marked, labelled or placarded
as appropriate and in proper condition……….

Stowage

• Harmfull substances shall be properly

stowed and secured so as to minimize
the hazard to the marine environment
without impairing the safety of the ship
and person on boar
