What is sound and how is it produced?

Answer: Sound is a type of energy that is created when something vibrates, such as when a guitar string
is plucked. When an object vibrates, it creates waves of pressure that travel through the air. Our ears are
able to detect these waves of pressure and interpret them as sound.

How does sound travel?

Answer: Sound travels through the air in waves of pressure that move in all directions from the source of
the sound. These waves of pressure can travel through solids, liquids, and gases.

What is the speed of sound?

Answer: The speed of sound is about 343 meters per second (or 767 miles per hour) at room
temperature. The speed of sound can vary depending on the temperature, humidity, and pressure of the
air.

What is the difference between high pitch and low pitch sounds?

Answer: High pitch sounds have a higher frequency, which means that the sound waves are closer
together. Low pitch sounds have a lower frequency, which means that the sound waves are farther apart.
For example, a high-pitched sound might be a bird chirping, while a low-pitched sound might be a bass
drum.

What is noise pollution?

Answer: Noise pollution is when there is too much unwanted sound in the environment, which can be
harmful to people and animals. Examples of noise pollution can include loud traffic, construction noise,
or loud music.

What is light and how does it travel?

Answer: Light is a type of energy that travels through space in waves. Light can be produced in many
ways, such as by the sun, light bulbs, and flames. Light travels in straight lines until it hits an object,
where it can be reflected, absorbed, or refracted.

What is reflection?

Answer: Reflection is when light bounces off of an object and changes direction. When light hits a
smooth surface, such as a mirror, it reflects off of the surface at the same angle as it hit the surface. This
is why we are able to see our reflection in a mirror.
What is refraction?

Answer: Refraction is when light bends as it passes through a material, such as water or glass. When light
passes through a material that has a different density than the air, such as water or glass, it can bend or
change direction. This is why objects underwater appear to be in a different position than they really are.

How do we see colors?

Answer: We see colors because of the way that light reflects off of objects. White light is actually made
up of all the colors of the rainbow. When light hits an object, some of the colors are absorbed by the
object and some are reflected back. The colors that are reflected back are the colors that we see.

How do shadows form?

Answer: Shadows form when light is blocked by an object, creating an area of darkness behind the
object. The size and shape of the shadow depends on the size and shape of the object, as well as the
angle and intensity of the light source.

What is a prism?

Answer: A prism is a piece of glass or plastic that can separate white light into its different colors. When
white light passes through a prism, it is refracted, or bent, at different angles depending on the
wavelength of the light. This separates the light into its different colors, creating a rainbow-like effect.

How do lenses work?

Answer: Lenses are curved pieces of glass or plastic that can bend light to create images. When light
passes through a lens, it is refracted, or bent.
